Re: Paper - Preferred folding material
I have recently made a bunch of double tissue, and I think it might be my favorite paper ever. At first I had tons of trouble getting air bubbles out withou horribly wrinkling the paper, but then I tried gently getting them out with my bare hands (mc is completely non toxic and doesnt irritate my hands at all), worked like a charm. I have much smoother paper now.

Re: Paper - Preferred folding material
From origami-shop, are these considered japanese foil or american foil, and for future reference how can I tell in the future?

Its hard to say without the GSM. From "The Fold", online OUSA newsletter, one of the public articles is about Japanese Foil (as well as American foil to a lesser extent):
http://www.origami-usa.org/thefold003_p ... anese_foil
It has a link to the Origami-Shop for 35cm foil, its probably the same as your second link.

Re: Paper - Preferred folding material
The foil rolls are rather thickish paper but strong and useful if you want stiffer paper whereas the square paper is really thin and strong and I guess are what is called Japanese foil.

Re: Paper - Preferred folding material
So I just ordered and recieved some 8lb tracing paper in a 36" wide roll. It measures out at .0015" thick, compared to most tissue which is right around .001" thick. I tried MC'ing a single piece, a double piece, and a single piece with tissue.
It doesn't take the MC all that well, but a thinner mixture would probably help.
I have to say the tracing paper + tissue looks like something very special. I'll know once I fold something complex with it, but initial feel is fantastic. It will also make larger sheets easier to fabricate since it's already 36" wide.

Re: Paper - Preferred folding material
I've tried making some tissue foil last week, but I used crepe paper instead of regular tissue. Didn't come out to well, but are there any Dutch folders here that know a shop where I can get actual tissue? (Only regular shops please, like Hema and V&D)

Re: Paper - Preferred folding material
I never fold with anything except printer paper. Whenever I need the paper to compact I wet it and wait for it to dry. I have seen other types of paper used but I don't know where I can find them. Any suggestions where to look?

Try origami-shop.com, it has a nice supply of papers, books and other origami stuff.
