Does anyone know of a source for Kraft paper suitable for origami? I
mean of the sort that Nicolas Terry sells in his shop that is much
like a gift wrapping paper with the "ribbing" rather than the general
purpose Kraft paper for wrapping packages? The paper Terry sells is
great, but I'd like to find something in bulk.

I know that it comes in rolls because I received a few gifts with it
last year but the person who gave them to me wasn't sure where they
had purchased the paper (and it's definitely not something I am
finding in craft stores). Googling returns only many variations of the
coarser, thicker paper for wrapping boxes for shipping and the like...

Brown paper of any type has to be one of the least appreciated origami mediums, I would say working with any thickness it's just a matter of determining the best size to start with. The thicker the paper the larger the initial sheet.
I always use 60 gsm Kraft from stationers for Elias models requiring 3:1 or worse as .

Brown paper is so cheap, and often it can be reused, many a parcel covering has become a model.

Hello all.
I have seen many kraft papers but I don't know which ones are good for origami. I have heard that they are thick so I am not sure if I could buy them.

I use Kraft only for simple models and first folds. In my experience it has good memory for simple models, but with complex model it can break.

I actually want to fold the Ryujin 2.1 and I have seen many people using Kraft. I just want to know which type and what weight of Kraft paper to use.

I made these notes from some list or somewhere, but they might be helpful:

"Newsprint and kraft paper rolls: 1 ream = 24x36 * 500 = 3000 sqft
poundage * 1.6276 = gsm
kraft 40# = 65gsm, 50# = 81gsm, 60# = 98gsm
newsprint 30# = 49gsm
raydiant = 50# basis = 81gsm ritecoinc.com
fadeless = 14g/2sqft = 75gsm pacon.com

I've used 50# (80gsm) brown kraft shipping paper for a few of Maekawa's folds, and the 75-80gsm Raydiant/Fadeless kraft for a few others. I found the shipping paper to be softer/thicker than the others, even at the same basis weight. A warm iron can take most of the curl out of the paper, just don't use steam.

Rabbit and Triceratops are the 50# shipping kraft. Dragon, Turkey, Helmet Beetle, and Devil are Raydiant/Fadeless. Eastern Dragon, Tyrannosaurus, and Pyramid were all white kraft, I think 40#."

kraft 40# paper is suitable for all first fold paper creativity, I guess for higher folds you need some more high quality paper. Search eBay, may be you'll get lucky.

I found some 28gsm kraft paper at a very decent price for 15 sheets

Hi,
I will not not suggest you to use kraft paper for origami. Because it will not a good option you should visit a store and buy a less cost paper for origami to use. It will not be good option because kraft paper will be making problems and will become useless soon.
