Does anyone here has experience making and folding with what Roman Diaz mentions as 'Sirgo Paper' - Single tissue coated with PVA? I'd like to know whether it is good for all origami ( like insects, birds, dragons) and how does it fare in comparison to double tissue + MC . Thanx.

I tried making it once and it was a disaster... The tissue paper got torn up into tons of little pieces. After that, I've never tried making it again :D

I think you may have to dilute the glue with water for it to work better. Mariano Zavala on Flickr uses sirgo paper and I think I recall him saying that he uses 50% water 50% glue.

While diluting white glue works okay, CMC is far better. Essentially, applying the glue adds sizing to the paper, which is kind of a measure of stiffness. Any local art store will carry bookbinding glue, ask for it in powder form this way you can vary the amount of glue and size in the paper. Check out some CMC posts for more info. Sirgo paper is just double tissue :)

okay. But double tissue uses MC/CMC, while sirgo paper uses PVA. Although the purpose is to add sizing, i suppose they'd behave differently because PVA when dry does not take moisture like MC.

White glue is Methyl Cellulose based, with PVA. So it does the same thing.

I use a lot of this 'sirgo paper' as you call it for my folds. I can post video of me making it if you wish.

I'll post the video tomorrow, i'm assuming you guys are aware how to make MC, so i won't include that.
Edit: I'll probably be uploading it later today, or tomorrow. I didn't have time to make the video last night.

Sara has a video with a similar process to mine here
