Differences between Majestic and Stardream paper?

Post by Gerardo »

Stardream is a better known paper in origami circles, but there's also a very similar paper called Majestic paper. It's also made in Italy but by a company named Favini.

Here's the official webpage: http://www.favini.com/gs/en/fine-papers ... lications/

And here's a shop that sells it: https://www.paperconcept.pl/en/metallic ... 20aa4.html

I've folded it a little and I haven't found any difference in relation to Stardream paper. It also sells with a density of 120 g/m2. Do any of you know this kind of paper? Have you found any difference in relation to Stardream?

Any comments are very much appreciated :).

I haven’t folded these particular brands, but I have folded several different kinds of metallic paper which are as far as I know very similar products to these two.

The main difference I have noticed between different brands was in rigidity: some brands were stiffer, allowing for better collapsing of tessellations/boxes/modulars while others were softer and more likely to “flow” rather than to break when folded. This is nice with organic shapes but makes some collapses harder, where it is better for the paper to just snap into place.

The papers I tried were all quite thick (all rated 120-130 gsm but felt much thicker and harder to get fine details with than Elephant Hide which is theoretically quite close at 110 gsm) but with noticeable differences between different brands.

So you may have a look at these two properties — maybe they’re very similar between these two particular brands, but maybe you can spot some differences.
