I folded it with 30cm kraft as a draft, then 35cm tracing paper for a small gift. If i remember correctly, 70cm will give you a 25cm tall model.
Diagrams did exist once upon a time, and were freely available on the internet i believe. But now, the diagrams can't be freely distributed because the author, Lang, did not give permission.
If you have the BBC doco "between the folds' you can slow down the frame rate and use those diagrams. The diagram sequence is part of a montage

Roosevelt Elk
I would hate to be the cause of someone amputating any limbs. Diagrams for the Roosevelt Elk will be in the revised 2nd edition of Origami Design Secrets (along with assorted other new bits of goodness), hopefully in time for Tanteidan 2011 (August).
Re: Robert J. Lang - Roosevelt Elk
Has anyone used the diagram yet? If so can anyone help me understand step 12? I've tried it every way, but I just can't see it

Re: Robert J. Lang - Roosevelt Elk
its a weird step, you actually have to flip the paper inside out toward the center of the model and using the lines shown, pleat. its doesnt make sense by looking at it but when you fold it it works itself out.
Re: Robert J. Lang - Roosevelt Elk
Well, I've gone through at least 25 sheets of paper trying to get step 12. I think I've finally got something close to how it should look in step 13, but can anyone verify, because it's been a very challenging fold for me...

Thanks for any help/advice

Re: Robert J. Lang - Roosevelt Elk
i really wish the diagrams for this model described the folding sequence for the references and not just show them as decimals, but i guess i could use ref finder to obtain a folding sequence, just seems like a pain in the @$$. i guess it makes me appreciate all the diagrams where robert actually describes how to get those crazy ref points (like the Varileg Scorpion from OI2). good luck!
Re: Robert J. Lang - Roosevelt Elk
all you have to do is take the length of your paper/70*each reference point to find the main points in the cp. for example if I had 40cm paper, the point x would be 40/70*x' (where x' is the reference point in the diagram.

Re: Robert J. Lang - Roosevelt Elk
but there is 7 different reference points
my flickr tissue foil is for noobs! mc FTW!!!!
Re: Robert J. Lang - Roosevelt Elk
And that's why, in this case, it's better to just measure and mark, than to try to find them all using ReferenceFinder or the equivalent. Finding all of those points by folding alone would cover the paper in extraneous creases and would be even more tedious than measuring and marking. (Trust me, I know whereof I speak.) ;o)orislater wrote:but there is 7 different reference points
