I've started work on my second attempt on the dragon...still no sign of that methyl cellulose
I asked at some pharmacies but without any luck...I'll try at some construction material stores after the Easter cause everything's closed for the Easter.
I'm afraid that if I want to get MC I have to go to the source where it is made cause I don't see how I can find it any other way( maybe in composition with something else)...pure MC is just hard to find. I would settle for CMC as well.
The problem is that maybe seller have it somewhere(even in pharmacies) but don't do the effort to look and just tell me "no we don't have any"..
I'm a little down for the moment..
Btw...Happy Easter to all you folding freaks and non folding freaks!
It's a pity that you can't find it anywhere, there is for sure a simple source nearby you just have to find it.
Happy Easter to you too. In Austria we celebrated Easter some weeks ago (in March I think).
They DO NOT ship internationally. I haven't had any luck finding this stuff locally I usually just use diluted Elmer's glue because it is cheap and readily available
-sorry for the off topic-
*EDIT* Paper source does ship internationally! I sent an inquiry and this was their response:
"Thank you for your interest in Paper-Source! We ship internationally via UPS. Shipping rates are based on the weight of the order and the postal code it is shipping to, as our website only factors in shipping based on the assumption that the order is shipping with in the United States. Once your order is placed, we will contact you via e-mail with the exact cost of shipping for your order. At that time, we can cancel your order if you the shipping fees are too high. Once you have approved the shipping fees, we can proceed with your order and will charge the additional shipping charges to the credit card you used to place the order. Additional brokerage/customs fees may apply and UPS is to contact you prior to the delivery of the package."

The cp is available in Tanteidan #55. In the end, though, the cost for getting this back-issue would be the same as buying the Works of Satoshi Kamiya.
nearly done with this monstrosity. have to say... i think the hardest part is getting a piece of paper large enough, thin enough, and strong enough with which to fold it. the process itself is just very long winded. that being said i think you make it a lot harder if you do it with tissue-foil... there are some sinks where it would be hard to get much traction. even with a 70 cm square the dragon's body isn't very big at the end... what size are kamiya's presentation grade models folded from?
hello
plz confirm this step for me!!!
i've folded this model already, it looks ok.
but i have a question, am i doing step 9 right?
when i fold this step the edges do not line up.
the edge can't line up though if i am to continue the precreasing with accurate folds according to the diagrams.
so, question is. do the edges line up in step 9?
next confirmation!
step 14 and 35. are the edges of these folds not suppose to line up with the edge ether?
edit: what kind of paper does kamiya fold this with? because when i fold it with tissue foil the edges that get worked a lot (fingers and head) get kind of crumpled and arn't as smooth as they should be
the answer is everything is supposed to line up. did you use a very large square, one that you cut yourself? likely it was not a perfect square if everything did not line up. if your square was particularly large, this is probably why the model turned out alright, you have more give in the landmarks. if your square was very small your leeway is less.
as stated in the forward, likely the model was folded from origamido paper, which is probably the closest to the "perfect" paper for origami (i.e., thin and strong). this is really evident in the legs. i've more or less finished the model, but i practiced with four pieces of kami taped together. needless to say, the legs are like soda cans.
square is perfect, in step 9 it doesn't tell you to line up the edges at right angles but to "make crease lines connecting the circled points" when i do this the two edges are slightly off from each other. i used a piece of tissue foil 45 cm squared. the second time i made it it looked really good, other then the legs which the paper was slightly too thick to give them much character.
nvm, you were right, square is just slightly off (0.7mm to be exact)
Guys can anyone please give me a hint where does the top corner go in the step 60 of the dragon i really cant figure out....the fold at this step looks simple but i dont know where to place the top corner and in step 61 i cant see the corner anywhere.....
If u have some spare time u can post some pictures for doing that step and i would be very happy because i really want to finish this dragon....
Thanks in front
You're basically just sinking it, like in a waterbomb base. You can even see the x-ray lines in step 62...
I folded it with double tissue.
THIS is the perfect paper for this model! It's super thin and extremely strong, so the points can become as thin as logically possible. By the way, to make double tissue, just glue two layers of tissue together with methyl cellulose.
See the uncanny resemblance?
