Where can I buy methyl cellulose???
I live in... Korea... so I need a site that can ship all the way to here.
is there anything that can be a replacement for this MC??
because in korea, you can easily get 도배풀 (the glue used for 한지(some kind of korean crafting) and glueing wallpapers on walls) and I was thinking if that can be used...
Looking at that other person that used double tissue to make his dragon, I wanted to use the same paper...
and one more question
If I can't find tissue paper that is as large as at least 50x50cm, can I slightly overlap and glue it on all together to make it 50x50???

That should be fine. I know people are doing this to make paper of size 2m x 2m
Methyl Cellulose (MC) is WallPaper paste. If you go to a wallpaper store or a paint store they may have some. You'll have to read the ingredients.
Also, MC can be eaten, and may be in some "laxatives", like Citrucel. You might try talking to a pharmacist, maybe an older one, to see if they have some in the back room. A little goes a long way.

I folded it with double tissue.
THIS is the perfect paper for this model! It's super thin and extremely strong, so the points can become as thin as logically possible. By the way, to make double tissue, just glue two layers of tissue together with methyl cellulose.
See the uncanny resemblance?
hello everyone,
i just wondered if anyone out there has folded an ancient dragon and had sucess with the horns i am at step 190 with this model, and i am worried about how my horns are going to turn out as most of the pictures i have seen of this model the horns arn't as sharp as the one on the front page of kamiya's book, any advise on this would be greatly appreciated.

99.9% of this is going to be your paper choice. remember, kamiya folded that with origamido paper, which is the closest thing there is to "perfect"--strong, and thin. even with foil my model got very thick. the pics you see in this thread are mostly everyone coping with the fact that they don't have origamido paper.
thankyou for your comments bethnor the right paper seems to be a problem with almost every folder, i will keep on experimenting with different types
thanks again, matt
The thing with ORIGAMIDO paper is that it's very hard to get ( at leas for me it is).If I'm not mistaking you can only get it from Michael Lafosse's studio or an origami convention. And if you get it, I don't think you'll have let's say 100X100 cm paper( I saw SK fold the ancient dragon with 2mX2m paper, or Sipho Mabona with a sheet over 1m, made from 2 MC pasted mulberry sheets).
I really don't think that it's absolutely necesary to fold with origamido if you really can't get it. It kind of gets frustrating knowing that the only thing stopping you from folding a nice model is the paper that you can't buy.IMPROVISE!
If you have a big mulberry paper( or 2 pasted sheets like Sipho had) I think that you can work on details very good.Size does matter!
I saw many excelent Ancient Dragons and all I can say is that except from SK's, the ones folded from bigger( and by bigger I mean over 70X70 cm) mulberry/tissue paper were better looking than the ones made from origamido.
Then again, this is MY point of view . I may be mistaking.
I agree that you don't need Origamido paper for Ancient Dragon. You might be able to get some large paper from the local hobby or craft store, or maybe from a butcher or florist, or even by using gift wrap paper. In addition, there are various online places that you can buy larger paper.
Michael Lafosse's paper is the best quality for Origami. It is strong, archival, and designed for wet-folding. And, one thing that Michael said about some frog paper that I bought: If you fold a model that you feel is poorly done, lightly wet it, unfold it, iron it flat and start again.
As far as I know, Kamiya spent some time at Origamido learning how to make the paper. I don't know if he makes or buys his own.
However, Michael is nice and tries to be very giving. They are currently busy , in the process of moving from the east cost of the US more than 6000 miles to Hawaii. But, they usually answer email requests, when they get the time.
So, if you can afford it, I recommend looking into some Origamido paper.

for the record, i wasn't saying that you need origamido paper to fold the ancient dragon. i was saying it helps if you want the ancient dragon to look exactly as it does on the cover of the book, as the poster was concerned that the horns that he saw in pictures in this thread appeared too thick. they appear too thick mostly because of the paper they were folded from, not the actual technique.
you are starting to become REALLY ANNOYING. if you don't use a better english in the future, I will delete your posts. I know, that you can speak english, so use it. that's not cool and not funny anymore, so STOP IT! this is an international board, and it's VERY UNPOLITE to write sentences that other people probably won't understand!

Didn't you ever hear anything about dyslexia? This well could be the case.
Sorry for the off-top.
