origami_kid wrote:Very nice Vykintas73 I must say.. the 70 gsm paper of 1mX1m was ok for pretty good details on the head.
Still I must say that for details on the feet, especially the claws, I think one must have a better paper, like tissue treated with MC, to stay stiff at the end.
ooooooh, now I remember where I read it!!!
@ted: on page 10 you can see how to do 66-67 steps
when i first tried this model i used a standard newspaper. this worked however i could not get good detail on the head so i was somewhat dissapointed
but tissue paper is what i am going to use on my next attempt
If life was as complex as the Ancient Dragon we would all fail in acclompishing life. For those who can make it, they are the true masters.
Newspaper?! That's a bad choice IMO. When I tried folding anything from newspaper I always ended up with something really awful no matter how simple the model was. Even the bird base was awful, despite the fact I pre-creased it! Never had those issues even with printer paper.
My Origami Dragon blog. The awesome beauty of the origami dragon! Behold!
Yeah, I never had much luck with newspaper either. But I managed to fold the dragon out of some packing paper, and that worked pretty well(except that it was crumpled up, which made finding some of my creases a little hard).
I have folded models from newspaper a couple of times, and your hands just end up black from all of the ink!
BTW, thanks for the help on step 66, I cracked it and have now almost finished the model. I found the steps 80-90 quite easy, though it seems thta many people did not.
hi, i´ve folded many easy models and the Ancient Dragon is my first complex one.
i got stuck at step 30-33, can anybody help me? (if possible with some screens)
now, this is my 2nd attempt...I used a 1m x 1m craft paper (70 gsm) ...The model became very very very thik in the end, and I wet-folded something...now I'm quite satisfied, even if I couldn't pleat the horns and crimp the neck twice
Hi! It's been a long while since I've been active on here. I deleted my Dropbox years ago, so some things, like my Dragonfly Varileg guide, are lost to time. I may still have other things, though! Email me if you have any questions.
not to be rude, but if you take the time to read through the entire thread, i believe your question has been asked by others and already answered. eyeballing your base, it looks like something is not quite right, particularly in the middle flaps--it shouldn't be raised like that.
lastly, you may have trouble with the finishing touches with the current size of your model.
The flap that it raised should actually be stuck onto one of the flaps, it should not be loose . So, benthor is right and wrong at the same time. It should be raised, but it should be stuck onto one of the flaps. the first time that I attempted to fold the Ancient Dragon, I did the same thing. However, it is unrepairable (you can not unfold it and try again) so I would suggest just starting over again.
I finished my first Ancient Dragon without ever getting stuck in the diagrams! I just wish I had thinner paper, oh well.
This time, it was 48-inch (120cm) paper from an art supply store. Nothing too fancy, and it got really thick in the legs. I may try again one day with better paper if I can find it. It took from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
