Step 69 is a repeat of steps 65-67. Did 65-67 go well?

Hello everybody, Im new to this forum and to origami... I recently started working on the ancient dragon and Im stuck at step 38 (I know there already is another post about this but as hard as I tried I couldnt find the answers I was looking for) so if anybody can help me out, that would be nice. I mean I can get it to look like step 41, but Im obveously missing something because as I move on to step 42 there is nothing to squash.. Ive looked at tutorials for open sink techniques and things like that.. didnt seem to help me out. Anyways, thank you for your time !

Welcome 6xsnake6x ^_^

Step 38 is the two inside reverse folds one on each side, and step 39 shows how it should look after you've done that. You say that you have no flap to squash once you reach step 42, that means you didn't sink correctly i step 40. I assume you have the book "Works of Satoshi Kamiya" and if you turn to page 8, it shows you how to properly make an open sink (you can see that you end up with a flap when performed). When you open sink, you dont completely invert the point like a closed sink, you're just pushing the point in so that it lines up with the edge of the paper. This creates the flap that you will squash in step 42. I hope this helps :D

6xSnake6x, I must warn you that if you are not familiar with open sinks then this model will end up being very, very hard to fold. There will be some nasty sinks during the folding process ( somewhere around step 80 for example ).
I'm not trying to demotivate you, but know that this model has some tricky parts. Good luck!

It may be the paper I am using, but I am having issues regardless. Steps 49-56 of Satoshi's Ancient Dragon are giving me serious grief; can anyone post pics, videos (preferably the latter) showing how precisely this is done? I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!!!

You know, this is a very difficult model to fold... if you're already having trouble with it, maybe you should start out with an easier model? Certainly, if the paper's already giving you trouble, you won't be able to finish it without better paper.

Step 49 is a valley fold-- I think you can do that :-P

Steps 51-58 are similar to what you already did in step 46-47, but forming pleats on both sides instead of just the front. It helps to open the model a little bit.

Now this is what you call awesome.
Props for the effort. What paper did you use by the way? Is it Japanese rice paper? I imagine it should be reallyyyyyy thin. Oh and did you use a magnifying glass to fold this? I do that when I fold ultra-tiny models.

@delladcup

i folded it from a 62x62cm (24inch) square of paper and my dragon came out to about 28cm long from head to tip of tail straightened. so if you want one thats about 20cm long id say try a 45x45cm square :wink:
