I've folded around 12 of these by now yet I keep messing them up on step 35, I've looked up many different videos and studied the diagram for a long while but I still have difficulty understanding how you make that specific fold. Any help is appreciated

I am very sorry that I haven't helped out even though I could. To do the step, you can imagine it as a kind of reversefold. The goal is to get a nice flat edge from ear to ear when the head pops open. To achieve that I usually open the flap from behind, as the bold arrow indicates, and then pinch the line between the ears, pulling down the top like a band, and then flattening along the reversed fold lines to the tip of the head flap. I am very sorry for the late answer, hopefully I could help somewhat. I really like folding this model! After the step, it should still look like a reversed Σ at the top, it just opens from the reversed tip. I hope the slow response hasn't scared you away from the forum!
