Help with GuspathGo's Gryphon

Post by LilacSkies »

(due to the 640px img size limitation, Ill just be leaving imgur links)

In a nutshell, Ive had a bit of an obsession of trying to solve this gryphon piece for probably a year now, but never could actually do it- and the fact that any reference to people other than the original creator folding it, has pretty much been lost to time, doesn't really help. Its been 15 years, after all.

So, after looking through the dusty corners of the Internet, I have gotten a cp set up that looks like the one Guspath photographed in the instructions, but I simply have no idea how to collapse it. Even the step from panel 6 to 7 has had me held up for so long- and this is probably the 4th time I spend hours, just on that tiny step. So I might as well ask if there is anybody who would be willing to help me, instructions, pictures, video- anything. Even just with collapsing. I'd greatly appreciate it <3

this is with the caveat that i've never done this model.

i have noticed that it basically has the same base as tran trung hieu's larva wyrm and katsuta kyohei's griffon. those models are published.

in short, pleat the long edges. the corners will be flattened as rabbit ears. after this, the center parts will be collapsed as bird bases.

I tried just pleating the raw edges down, but I just end up with long protrusions instead of the small 2unit sized triangles.

Ugh, I wish I could just challenge someone to try their luck and then ask them how they got there. Sadly I don't know anybody who could help me out and other than asking here, Im pretty screwed :,D

It looks like you're on the right track with the wings. For the head and tail, though, I think you need to outside-reverse-fold on the second intersection in from the corner. (These points form the tip of the tail and the beak.) It's difficult to explain how the creases come together, but you'll form another diagonal perpendicular to the main one and bounce the pleats off of it. I could probably come up with a partial crease pattern if you need me to. Just let me know. :)

no, you're headed in the right direction. he only differed somewhat in his collapse (hard to tell for sure, but it seems like he hadn't completed the pleats, which is why he has 2 unit sized triangles).

you could always get "new generation supreme origami," which has the diagrams to kyohei's griffon.

Yeah, my noggin' gave up after "outside reverse fold on the second intersection" xD Still, thanks for the help. If you wanted to come up with that partial crease pattern, I'd be happy to accept. Really, any help that you can provide would push me forward on this adventure.

I want to preface this by saying that it might not be entirely accurate, nor does it show all the creases you'll need to fold it flat.
Nevertheless, this is what I came up with based on the images you've provided. (I used your reference points--trisecting the angle.) It should at least point you in the right direction.

This model is definitely a different style than what I would do, personally, hence the caveat that it might not be accurate.
