Hoang Tien Quyet - Cat Help!

Post by Manaquin »

Afternoon all!

I have just joined this forum so please go easy on me!
After a long hiatus ( since a teen ) I have decided to try Hoang's cat.
I was doing it from the book which is actually very clear ..... however everything goes awry at step 12 - 14.
I can get the rhombus shaped head, but I cannot get the cat like shape.
I've viewed his video ( I prefer to work from diagrams) but no disrespect its a terrible video and not clear at all.
I am using 80gsm printer paper as didn't want to waste any origami paper.
Has anyone done this model or can show me a very broken down further of steps 12 - 14?

Many thanks for any advice given in advance!

Here are the steps below:

It's slightly trickier to help you without seeing your model. The steps seem fairly clear to me (although I haven't folded it), so my first question to you is whether you're sure you've done step 11 properly. (The model should look the same--mirror-image, of course--behind at step 12.)

In step 13, you're essentially spread-sinking the vertical edge that was formed in step 11. There's an unmarked crease (a mountain fold from the colored side) hidden behind what will become the cat's face in step 14.

Let me know if that helps. The first part of my post may be unnecessary, but I don't know your skill level. :)
After the fall, we rise.

Hi Baltorigamist

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I'm going to give it a go tonight and take some photos.
I must admit I think I should maybe back up a little in terms of models to fold as it has been A LONG time.
But I saw that cat and thought " I can do that"

.... and actually I think you are right, the issue is with step 11 and the accuracy of the folds being in the right place / angle as I never see the cats ears?

Will work on it again tonight

Thanks for your help!

He calls it a squash fold but really it is a spread sink. If you look up how to do a spread sink you will probably figure it out
