I can't quite figure out how the valley folds in step 5 on the Valentine Masu are supposed to make a bird base. How do I do it? http://www.robogumby.com/origami/valmasu.pdf

*Sigh*

The thing with internet diagrams, the quality of the diagrams varies.
Where the valley folds cross, they become moutain folds.

Just fold the border in, and you will see how to for the bird base.

... except for thefact that those aren't bird bases, those are preliminary bases. Don't mean to confuse you. Something that is a bit better to understand that is similar would be Charles Esseltines Dragon in Flight (look at step 8 )

Sorry it's so late, but here's a copy. Keep in mind that I was doing it with scrap paper (don't have any good origami paper), I'm not sure if I did step 9 right (and therefore I couldn't see any way to do step 11), I'm very new to origami and didn't crease folds too hard in this model in case I made a mistake (I made a few, thus the big gap between the heart pieces). For the creator's picture, see http://www.papercrane.org/?a=50
