The chest is pretty confusing, but if you keep folding the phoenix and get more experience, you will understand. To my opinion, the chest is like a hidden rabbit ear, the lower triangle in the chest CP is folded like a rabbit ear and the wings hide it and covers it.
Does anybody have any suggestions to how big the paper should be? I have 3 foot paper 10 inch paper and some in between. I have not yet folded this model but want to attempt to fold it this week. Thank you in advance.=)

uh, thats a little bit too big.
I used less than a 20 inch sheet of paper. I didn't finish the model though, I just got it precreased and I was too lazy to collapse it, so i threw it away. Tadashimori used a 40 cm sheet, which is about 15 inches.

The recommended size is about 70 cm, I folded it pretty good from that size, I'm probably going to refold it soon with about 45 cm, some parts might get a bit small, but still foldable, I think.

Some people folded it from printing out the cp and folding it.

Ha Thant sounds like me sometimes. When I get bored of a model I just stuff it in my desk and never finish it. Unless I really like the model

Tadashi Mori Did a tutorial on this model there. It is really long, so it is a bit clunky.

I've seen that tutorial before, its really useful.
I personally don't like how how does the crease pattern, because if your using the paper I used for it, the creasing gets all screwed up.
