Post by stevieboy1 »

Hi all im trying to fold the Samuri Helmet Beetle from origami insects ii but from step 32 it dont make scence????

in total there are only 4 altogether.

I have gone back over the previous steps but nope still dont get 3 flaps on the left and i cant see how im suposed to??

On the pages 5 and 6 of this guide http://www.origamiaustria.at/diagrams/b ... uide_3.pdf, Elias stretches are explained in a clear way.

Cool thanks for that Anna that helped.  Hes now all finished. So glad i managed to fold it i have been working on this model all day so been at it for a good few hours.

I will have to post some pics of my origami bugs when i get a chance there not perfect or as good as lots of seen but im pleased with them. They are much more complex than a lot of the stuff i folded when i was younger. 8)

Kind regards
Steve :D

Okay, so in step 44 he mentions there is an odd layer, which is fine. But there is non way for me to flatten what I have and make it look like step 45. The only way I can make it flat without squashing anything is to fold over another flap, at which point it doesnt look like 45. THEN, in step 56-57, clearly I've done something wrong, because the left side of the area I'm working on does NOT have two triangle shapes, and I cannot make the diagonal valley fold in step 56 because some layer behind it is locked...argg...did anyone else get messed up here, or did I just screw something up earlier?

errr, okay, so you have to kind of stretch/sink/squash it...which forms a gusset behind...but it kinda doesn't tell you this has to happen...anyone else have this issue?

even though i don't have my book in front of me, i know exactly what you are talking about.

this part is very poorly diagrammed. you are just going to have to rework the inner layers of the horn to appear as they do in the diagrams before you can proceed, which involves spreading/sinking the layer in a way you are not instructed.

Ah, I see. Thank you Bethnor...you're the best. I DID end up having to rework them...I just felt like I was taking crazy pills!

Im trying this but I don't under stand how you rework it. Can some one provide photo diagrams or explain it clearer.

it's such a small process that I think it would be hard to photodiagram or video, Orca.

The easiest way to solve this problem is to look direclty to the CP. Indeed is a very confusing steep but you can fiugre it out easily by looking a t the CP. A good way to do this steep is partially pull the sunk paper and rearrange using the CP.
Pobody's nerfect.

why does everybody have such a problem with this? its very clearly diagrammed, the answer lies in paying very close attention to the diagrams. its all there...i and many others have followed these directions to succesfully complete this beautiful model. good luck.

wrong. the layer in question comes from sinking the flap in question in and out. it is plain as day that the structure seen in step 45 cannot come from simply sinking the flap in and out. clearly many folders here went back to the step to see what they did wrong and found that simply sinking in and out will not achieve what you see in step 45. btw, it is entirely possible to proceed with the model as diagrammed anyway. the horn doesn't come out layered symmetrically, but it is not necessarily noticeable.

dude, ive done this model like 5 times, and every time i fold it, there is indeed one odd layer as shown in step 45. the structure shown in 45 is made by sinking and spreading the layers symmetrically, with the exception of the one layer. F--k it, ill fold it again right now, im at work till 11 so ive got nothing but time.

are you guys not realizing that there is a repeat there. 36-41 that acheives 45 result.??? is this where the confusion lies?
