Just a quick and easy question: in step 113, I'm just stretching that small middle point until it's flat, yes? Kind of like the steps used in The Last Waltz to make the arm flaps?
This is the one diagrammed in Tanteidan Convention book 14.

Errr...another small question: Step 143:
Are those vertical mountain folds bisecting each side, or are they arbitrary?

i've always bisected them, but i suppose you could make them arbitrary.
i love this model but i hate step 147.

Ugh, I know. That one and 149. If you do 147 screwy, it makes 149 just...well, it requires a lot of squashing and pushing...

Hi All -
A bit stuck at the moment -- in step 162, what exactly is getting pulled out from the upper right and left? The arrow suggests it's the middle of the three flaps, but when I do that, I don't get anything like the result in step 163. Is it, instead, some paper from in between the three flaps? If it is the middle flap, what is done with it -- it is "popped" convex or concave up, and then what is crimped in step 163? Any advice greatly appreciated -- thanks!

i don't have my book in front me, jerry, but, if i recall correctly, i believe i know what step you are making reference to. you are basically making closed unsinks of those corners to give volume to the carapace, so curl them concave towards you. will correct myself later when i'm home.

Hey Bethnor -- that was it -- worked very well! The result doesn't look much like the picture in step 164 to my eye, but the result is identical. Thanks!

Just make that short valley fold between the two circled points in 60, and in 61 you are forming a sort of crimp, meaning that the mountain and valley you see on the part of the model facing you are going to be reversed on the back side. Two F.Y.I. points: the next few steps are tricky...you will have to add creases that are not already there (but which Satoshi shows you) to get it to collapse. Also, if this model is very difficult for you maybe you should put it down for awhile and come back to it. It took me three tries before I finished it.

this model is one of my favorites to fold....personally i think robert j langs samurai helmet beetle from OI2 has a better finished appearance asthectically...but....this folding sequence is much more natural and flows a little better than langs "sink everything and thin legs" method but thats just my humble opinion. both models are great fun to fold, this one is just a little more fun! good luck! oh wait PS. so the diagrams for this model have been revised a few times i think because the steps involving the "closed unsink" isnt diagramed very well in the tanteidan diagrams, BUT...in the diagrams from "super complex origami" those steps have been revised and added to better describe the folding sequence.....so if you can get the diagrams from super complex and not the tanteidan ones, i would suggest doing so because it makes it much easier to understand what is being described. good luck!
