Satoshi Kamiya - Cicada Nymph

Hey all. Just a quick question: I'm on step 104-105 of Kamiya's Cicada Nymph (Origami USA Convention Book 2008, page 89), and it seems to me that there is no way to make the paper look like step 105. I put the folds in step 104 in, but the flap is simply not long enough to be sitting where it is sitting in step 105. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Hi, I folded the cicada nymph about a week ago and got stuck on that same step. Eventually I figured it out-the problem starts in step 102 with the squash fold. Pay very close attention to how the layers are spread. One layer goes to the bottom while 2 go to the top. I put 2 to the bottom and was tearing my hair out on step 104. Good luck!

Thank you so much JonnyCakes! I was just coming back on here to say what you essentially said...I distributed the layers wrong in 102

Luckily, Kamiya is incredibly detailed with his diagrams...and I saw that double layer in step 103...eventually...after like 40 minutes of screwing with it...thank you just the same, though!

Also, glad to see that I'm not losing my mind...how did yours come out?

From the looks of it, unryu with Methylcellulose. Just a guess though.

one of my favorite models by the great satoshi kamiya. complex but easily foldable, with a great result. try using huge paper to get a really big cicada nymph! good luck!

I'm folding it from sekishu + mc right now, and its turning out pretty good actually. I'm definitely going to refold it though, maybe with my other sheet (thats bigger) of sekishu. Its really complex, but still easily folded.
and strange, i didn't have any trouble on step 102-104.
