Good beetles to start with?

Post by roodborst »

I recently made some new paper and saw some very nice insects on flickr. I'm looking for suggestions on folding insects/beetles. What are some good models to start with? Please no 250 step models or anything from CP. I also prefer 22.5 above boxpleating.

Thanks in advance.

I have a Beetle that is from a blintzed bird base at about 30 steps. It is in my book Origami Bugs (where there are some other intermediate level bug folds). I taught that piece to first-time origami folders from 12 foot (!!!) squares. It was a success - it should be even easier from normal sized paper. - Marc

I folded your cockroach instead. Very nice model. Although the paper I made is way too thick for folding insect. I was lucky to finish the model.

How about Jun Maekawa's flying samurai helmet beetle? Diagrams can be found for it in: Genuine Origami by Jun Maekawa. Plus the book has some other neat intermediate models too!
Ouch! Are you okay? Well...let's see.. advanced box-pleating techniques, Satoshi Kamiya, yeah I'm good. If you fall down nine times get up ten times.
