I didn't fold them but they are my pictures. What are their names and who created them?

It's for a paper I have to finish in the next few days so it's kinda important .

Thank you in advance!

OK, after browsing a bit on the web I think I discovered that the first one is Spiral Snail Shell by Toshikazu Kawasaki. Is that correct?

Now, I have a problem with the second one. I found two different names and two different creators. Can someone help me confirm if it was independently created by two different origamists or if it was wrongfully attributed to one of them.

Flower Heart by Kathleen Weller

or

Change of Heart by Steve Hecht

Pleeeease!

All the sources I found - this includes an diagram by Steve Hecht - are pretty certain, that the model is by Kathleen Weller. If even Steve Hecht claims so, I guess we should believe him.

Thank you for your help origami_8 :D. I think he simply adapted the model so it could be folded from a US banknote and added the coin inside.

Actually I don't think so. He mentions in no word to have modified the model in any way, and all the instructions I found are for dollar bills with the coin added, so I'm pretty sure that this is her original model and no modification of any kind.

You mean you found Hecht's diagrams? I couldn't find them. Can you please share with me the URL?

I believe Weller's version is with common paper. According to Gilad's Origami Database, the model is to be folded from a 1 x 2 rectangle. There's no mention of a 3 x 7 US banknote: https://www.giladorigami.com/origami-da ... n%20Weller

My hypothesis is that Weller created the model, which must have been in 1986 (the year in which it was published in NOA magazine #135) or sometime before that. Hecht learned how to fold it, maybe without knowing its official name nor who created it, maybe also assuming it was a traditional model. Since Hecht apparently tended to prefer folding dollar bills, he made and shared diagrams of how to fold it with one.

I don't know how you arrive at these absurd assumptions and what you gain from claiming Stephen Hecht would have changed the model in any way.
Regarding the diagrams, I got a local copy on my computer, don't know where it origins, but I think it could have been Stephen Hecht's homepage. The diagrams clearly state Kathleen Weller as the author of the model. So Stephen Hecht clearly knew that she was the author. No reason to argue otherwise.
But if you really want to know whether there is an earlier version from a 1x2 rectangle or Gilad just made a mistake there, I'd recommend contacting Gilad and asking him, as he obviously owns three publications that contain the model.

Sorry. I had not understood correctly your first message and I don't have access to Hecht's diagrams. I assumed there was some change to the model in order to fold it from a 3 x 7 rectangle instead of a 1 x 2. I was also influenced by the change of name of the model.

I was wrong.

The second one looks very familiar: it looks a lot like the "flower in a heart" by Andrey Lukanov from the 2017 ioio, but I'm pretty sure it's a different model.

I don't know anything about the author or history of this model, but I have seen it a few times (not in a $-using country) in different places (shops, restaurants, kindergarten...), and it was folded from 1x2 paper each time I could handle it (with or without a coin inside).

Thank you everyone for your answers. No one mentioned the shell, so it's definitely Spiral Snail Shell by Toshikazu Kawasaki?

Yes, it is. Since you seemed to have figured out on your own already I thought there's no need to verify, but yes, it definitely is.
Kawasaki has two very similar shells that are both very pretty. The one in your picture is the symmetrical one, but there is also one with one distinct hole on the side. Right out of my head I don't remember the names, but the diagrams for the one with the hole have for some time been a very rare collectors item.

The Kawasaki shell model featuring a hole in the side (if I am correct looking at the picture) is feature in a Tomoko Fuse publication, "Let's Fold Spirals". It is uncommon, having been published in 1992, but if you are sufficiently motivated then I think that copies can be found. There appear to be used copies available on Amazon, I suspect they can be found elsewhere.

Author: Tomoko Fuse
English-language title: Let's Fold Spirals
Japanese-language title: らせんを折ろう・折り紙コレクション2
ISBN-13: 9784480872029
ISBN-10: 4480872027

Kawasaki's shell model with hole on side is on pp. 46-47
