Goubergen Duck Race

Post by mrsriggins »

Does anyone know where instructions of any kind for Herman van Goubergen's duck race are? I love this model and want to fold it. I just folded his car today I've had the diagram forever and I am so impressed by his ingenuity.

I don't think that the ducks are diagrammed yet. Herman showed me how to fold them at the BOS 40th convention, but I've forgotten the exact folding sequence. What I remember is the underlying principle. The ducks body is made from two opposite layers that are staying to each other like an upside down V with the tips of the V being bent outwards so that they meet the walls of the water exactly. If you move the water the friction between wall and duck-ends makes the duck move. So you could try to design all kinds of little things that are able to swim on the water.
