the face would be rather easy.
its just the back that kills me. i tried using something similar to what chan used in his rose to get the thorns, but that failed. I'll try a different grid another time. I had based it on 36.

ah....hm....:?
maybe try forming plates like from ronald koh's stegosaurus and pinching/crimping/sinking them to make the ridged points...? (That might be complicating the whole process, but that's what I can think of..)

thats a good idea, but there is only 4 points needed. and if I were to do that, i would only do pleats in the center. i might try that...

Yeah, that's what I meant by complicating the process. But maybe you wouldn't have to split so many points since you're only making 4....
Glad I'm sort of helping though, whatever the case. :)
Good luck!

You could create a sort of tunnel-hoop of spirally star-things, make it thinner at the tail and wider at the head, converging for the face, using the points of the stars for it's frilly bits around the face.

saywha?
i'm still thinking of ideas for it. so far, i think the easiest would be pleating the back and reverse folding out to points... the face: just think modified ryujin 1.2 head.

There's a double of your post PhillipCurl (at least on my computer). Mr. Peeve is gazing at me slyly with an evil glint in his face...(I'm not sure what Harpseal was trying to say either--so sorry Harpseal)
The pleating sounds good--wouldn't the points be smaller if you pleat though?

sorry bout that.
yea, thats why you pleat like 3 inches of paper inside....:P
i'm sure i could make it work with a strip graft also, for the head, at least. i could use the extra paper in the graft for the points. any suggestions for a grid? i want to keep it small as possible, but i'm thinking maybe a 44 grid :L

No problem--you were just so confused you doubled your post for emphasis :P
Wow, 3 inches? thick gyarados.
Hm...a grid? I would say 44 for detail's sake, but I think 36 could work since there aren't too many details after the face and tail and ridges. Oh wait, that's everything........:P

good point, very thick gyarodos. i was being sarcastic, more like 1.5 or 2 inches pleated inside... i'll figure that out when i get there.
i think that 36 would be easier, so i'll try that first. i'll draw up cp in class tomorrow.

I meant with the gyarados, to create a spiral of stars, getting thinner at one end and fatter at the other, with a mouth. I don't understand but if you tried it, you'd probably get a tesselated star gyarados with lots of geometry involved instead of an accurate model. For Aggron, i'll go for the same base as samurott and serpirior, which i will put on neorigami before someone invents one and puts it online before me. Mr Peeve will probably now come back and tell me this has already happened. Drat in advance
