Yes regarding cheaper, I think there is a perfect division between purists that want to achieve decorative folds, and Capitalists that use it as a tool as an ego booster!

This is such an interesting topic and will be a post on my blog for sure. I will start a debate and include polls etc. Will set up asap!

Folding real money sounds still a bit strange to me. I understand that the pattern allows some interesting effects, but as Chris stated you can have them with a printed out note as well (just make sure to note on the bill that it is just a reproduction).
When I really want to fold a design I usually fold it from the left of of A4 paper when you cut it square.
