Hi! I'm new here! I tried to join this forum earlier, but found that I needed an e-mail, which I didn't have. Now I have an e-mail, so I joined!

I've been folding since second grade, when in art class, I couldn't do the final step of a fortune teller. I told myself that I'd keep trying, and now I feel like I've learned a lot about origami, and can do it very well!

I hope that I fit in here, and I hope to have a good time!

Thanks, Baltorigamist! Unfortunately, my folds aren't the greatest (My best model I've folded was only about 75 steps total), but hopefully, by joining this wonderful origami community, my skills will grow!

James, I was the same when I joined (still sort of am). But the one thing I learned when joining up was how much it means just to be able to fold a model cleanly--no matter what it is.

You will get better in time, and if you really have time to spare you can become excessively good.

The number of steps are not important the result is. Just keep that in mind and keep folding!

I suppose you're right. I'm starting to try CP's and was wondering something. After you collapse the CP and get the base, how do you know how to fold the shaping folds?

That's the magic of it all. All the necessary flaps are there. You identify the what flaps are for what part of the model (through either just logic and reasoning or you look at the pictures of the finished model). Then after you know what is what, you start at what you know you can make look like in the picture. For example if it's a crab you are making and you know how to shape the claws--shape those first. You then proceed to attempt to shape the whole model to look like the picture.

At least that is what I do.
