Made 80 owls in a snowstorm once - and now I'm here!

Post by cricketconcerto »

Hello everyone!

I stumbled across this forum about a month ago while looking for help on a specific diagram, and now I can't imagine not being a member. I am a graduate student who fell in love with a simple origami owl design last February and decided to decorate my living room with them. I will now attempt to insert a couple of pictures to "show them off":

Since then, I have also made a mobile using a simple bird pattern, as well as about 20 of the Michael Lafosse "Alexander Swallowtail" butterflies (eight of which are already adorning another wall!). I am thinking about making a mobile for my baby niece for Christmas, so we'll see what happens with that.

I am very happy to be here, and am just constantly trying to brainstorm more projects (especially in the vein of apartment decoration). I think next I am going to try my hand at making cards; I love giving cards and sending mail, so I am excited to enter this genre.

See you around!

Beth

Post please photo of single owl. Anyway, your decoration is excellent, especially that reflection looks very effectively.

Thank you! Here is a picture of an owl by itself:

The diagram can be found all over the Internet - it's pretty simple but still looks nice. Here's a link to some instructions: http://www.origami-fun.com/origami-owl.html

And yes, I did wind up using scissors for the ears - sorry! :)

I love that design too... but it still bothers me to make the cut for the ears. Somehow, despite being a complete beginner, I find myself also an origami purist, particularly when it comes to cuts and glue (not so much with starting shapes of paper). Still, this fold just isn't the same without those little snips :)

Fncll, I do agree with wanting to be a "purist" - after making all those owls, I now freely scoff at any other diagram that requires scissors or glue! :) I'm sure there must be a way to form ears using a series of reserve folds, etc., but maybe I'll save that adventure for a rainy day.

The cut is very tricky, very smart. It is very valuable design.
