Hello dear folders

Post by jina »

Hello dear folders, :D I'm from Amsterdam NL and started only recently with origami.
Before that I was making polyhedra paper models by cutting and glueing and am somehow intrigued by the beauty of the building stones of our universe as we know it.
From that point I found the book 3-D Geometric Origami by Gurkewitz and Arnstein. I I also found Molecular Origami by Hanson.
Because I wanted to make a lampshade I discovered the world of Origami Tesselations. Wow! I've made the first 4 models from Eric Gjerdes' book. Now I'm sort of stuck on the 5th, 3.6.3.6. Paper keeps tearing or crumbling. ](*,) I suppose it's a matter of practice and finding stronger paper.
Ages ago had MMushrooms on a vacation to Switzerland gathered by locals. After that (maybe as a result from brain damage) I tend to see geometric models everywhere. It was an interesting experience, but not to be repeated. There are loads of books on Sacred Geometry, but I don't see what so sacred about it. It's rather a fact of life as life is sacred.
I hope to learn from you all and at some point when I have more knowledge, to share.
I will start sharing a photograph of my first attempts:

Belated welcome to the forum!

Geometric Switzerland Mushrooms........WHAAAT?!
Well, you've already shared some knowledge with me, I'll remember to stop by Switzerland if I need any help with fractals/tessellation folding :P

And those tessellations look nice and clean-folded...am I allowed to ask what paper do you use? It looks thin, but I can't be sure...
A tiny place to post my things. Enjoy~

Hi Flame! The paper I've used is Gillclear. Bought it at an artist shop. Enjoy folding!

There may still be a few sellers who have stock of the Gilclear, but it is now known as Neenah Ultra II or Cleafold... I'm unsure which. See http://www.neenahpaper.com/FinePaper/TranslucentPapers.

Well, I see the description of clearfold being "perfect for folding envelopes and other folding applications", so I'm going to assume that's it.

Thanks for your help fncll. :)
