A different kind of challenge: Design the blog's logo!
Boy, was it hard to decide in what forum to post this. I'm still not sure but I did it here since it is kinda a challenge.
For those of you who don't know, I've been working this past few weeks creating a blog for origami creators. It's almost finished and its name is Neorigami. A very very small group of people have began testing it. Soon I will ask some more to test it as well. Here is an instant image of it:
I like it, but I know I'm not the best logo designer (yep, I tried). So that's what this challenge is gonna be about. I hope you're interested, I know many of you are amazing using graphic design software making diagrams and CPs, but you don't even have to be that good to participate. I want you to asume this blog as yours, it's for the origami enthusiasts to apropiate and use, so you can even decide it's own logo!
Now here comes the weird part: ALL PARTICIPATING LOGOS WILL BE SELECTED AND BECOME OFICIAL IN THE SITE! As you navigate through the website the different logos will be shown, changing from one to the other. I just like it when everybody wins , and since this blog is for all of us, each of our logos should also have their own place (yep including my very own not-so-amazing logo).
This are the details to participate: logos must just say "Neorigami" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wordmark); check out what colors combine with the website. They must be saved as PNG, JPG or JPEG files. It's best if you use a transparency on the back, but you can also use a plain light grey, or even white, background. Look at the form of the current logos so you can have an idea of the form and size of yours. If you use any images, make sure you have the rights to use them. Only one logo will be accepted per person; as I receive new proposals I will add them to the site. I will edit the received logo to make it fit the different conditions. To send me your proposal, please email it to me to gerardo(a)neorigami.com
I'm still working in the blog, and some of you will be testing it, so it's still not public. For now, each time I receive a new logo I will install it in the site, take an instant image of it and show it here in this thread so everyone can take a look. Of course, I will be crediting it's designer! When the site becomes public everyone will be able to see your logo design.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTION, OR YOU'RE NOT SURE ABOUT SOMETHING, YOU CAN TELL ME HERE IN THIS THREAD. If you feel you need a special software to do this, and you don't have one, you can open this link http://www.splashup.com/splashup/ .
Help me out with some designs, I can bet you others will start sharing theirs once they see the first couple installed and posted here, right ?

Re: A different kind of challenge: Design the blog's logo!
Great news! I received the first logo and it looks great. Xavier, cuban creator and folder, sent me his design.
I need your help to make a decision, Xavier doesn't know which of his two versions of the logo combines better with the blog.
This is the first version:
And this is the second one:
What do you think? Which one would look better? Help me make up my mind so I can go ahead and install this logo .

Thanks for helping us with this decision! I've got voters here as well as in the spanish origami forum (http://pajarita.biz/modules.php?name=Fo ... highlight=). So this are the results for now:
First version: 4 votes
Second version: 2 votes
Let's see if more voters appear.
I'm very curious about who else would like to present their logo, a couple of participants have volunteered through my email's inbox but as the saying goes: THE MORE THE MERRIER!

I'd say the first
Art is about creation. It is about self-expression. It is giving form to something within you.

Re: A different kind of challenge: Design the blog's logo!
Why not an origami-ish font? There are a few free ones available:
http://www.urbanfonts.com/fonts/Origami.htm
http://www.fontspace.com/flop-design/origami
http://nunodias.deviantart.com/art/Origram-100360312
...and though it doesn't help with text at all:
http://www.fontspace.com/lauren-ashpole/origamibats
For anyone interested in spending a bit of dough, you can also get:
http://www.fonts.com/findfonts/detail.h ... tid=497870
http://www.handmadefont.com/origami.php
There are several others out there, too, found easily with a Google image search, but that don't seem to be available for purchase, sadly... I'm not certain how to use such fonts on a web page (if it's even possible), but I suppose they could easily be used and then transformed into vector graphics that can be saved as a .jpg or .png file.

Re: A different kind of challenge: Design the blog's logo!
Thanks for the suggestion dinogami. I think that can be a very good idea. If anyone wants to try it, you can make a Neorigami logo with one of those origami fonts and send me your entry to my email address. I would love using it in the blog and showing it here!
And how about you dinogami? Would you share your own Neorigami logo ?
