sipho mabona plane

Post by joshuaorigami »

hi everyone,

I'd be sooooo grateful if anyone could help me find instructions to this model.

You can see the model in the following video at 8:17 : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Lo_fnKDknQ

It flies so far!! Please please please tell me what you know about this model!

Thanks!

Why do you need the instructions if it is in the video?

It looks like either your basic square plane or "The World Record Paper Airplane", both of which can be found in Ken Blackburn & Jeff Lammers' The World Record Paper Airplane Book. Google's preview of the book does not show the WRPA, but it does have The Basic Square Plane, shown here. Hope this helps!

That plane is sooo easy. fold a rectancle in half then shape it like it is in the video. that guy is just good at throwing. I can't believe you couln't figure this out.

@likeaboss: First, show a little respect. Of all people on this forum, Josh is one of the few who can figure most things out. Second, that's not how you fold the plane. Look at the directions yourself and then bother to learn a little bit about aerodynamics.

I'm probably wrong, but I think that you start with an A4 rectangle fold the short edge in a few times, I think that 6, 1cm folds should do (play around with that part, but your basically rolling the paper), fold in half on the folds you made, fold out the wings, make another fold on the wings to make them look like Mabona's and your done.
Like I said this is a guess, but I know that it will fly, so you still get a good plane. :D

Actually, that isn't the aircraft in the video, and at first glance is unlikely to fly as far due to increased drag. The one in the video appears identical to those used to set the world record for duration, which stands at 29 seconds. It is very simple, and can be found in Ken Blackburn's book on setting the previous world record.

The world record will be held by me one of these days, though I do have to get to work on my throwing arm.
