Robert J. Lang - Dancing Crane

I've tried this crane about 3 times now and every single time I get stuck at step 31. My paper gets stuck when I try to do the close-sink fold on the back layer. How should I fold this step? A puzzle

Oooh..i've been tryin to do this one for a while, But i've been workin only with the CP so it's rather tricky ><! Where'd you get the diagrams from?

This is my First Try!! To small though I used big paper.
The legs are Closed sinks !!
Just need some time to practice.

oh wow amazing! what paper size did you used? I've been using a 11"x11" piece of computer paper. On the legs the paper gets stuck at the corner :-/ How did you execute the close-sink without getting into the corner paper trouble? Can you show me?? I've been trying this crane forever now. Made about 11 crane models and everytime I can't get pass the legs *sigh*

I can not remember the size I used. Perhaps 35~40 cm. The first time I used print paper but It came out to be very thick at the legs and the neck.
So I used Tracing paper !!

It's hard to describe how to sink the legs by words. But I think after practing closed sink fold on a water boom base several times you can master the legs !!

Can someone show where this closed sink takes place as I go to the layer furthest away and it doesn't seem to be a lot to play with really. Just one piece of paper folded to fork the triangle shape goijg down the leg. Pictures please v

I too have the second edition. This is where I am learning it from but it is not making it any clearer. It merely shows the outline of a trapezius shape that is the outcome of the closed sink. Please help me make the fold. If I could do it and could see how many people were struggling I woild gladly make a tutorial to help. Please , if you can perform the fold then please give some guidance.

I think the issue may be that all the edges that need to be sunk are wrapped around each other. Basically, there will be several parallel edges that all follow the same path around the crease in 29. The idea is to take the innermost layer and push the point down all the way through the gaps in the layers.

I haven't folded this one yet, but I can see why it might pose a challenge--it's a relatively sharp point compared to the majority of closed sinks out there, plus it's wrapped inside several layers. Maybe I can fold this one and take pics.

I'd love to see some detailed pics of step 31 in progress as well. I think I figured out what needs to be done with that flap but actually going about doing it is proving difficult. Had to resort to some elmers glue last night to hold the paper closed when sinking but by the time i figured it out, the paper was too far gone and wound up ripping that whole area open followed by a temper tantrum. Any advice on proper hand/finger placement during this fold?
