I figured.Harpseal wrote:! We posted at the same time falcifier! That is why mine made no sense! (Or much)
Also, using Google translate won't help terribly. You still have to decipher the real meaning of things. Some things just get mistranslated anyway, so they still don't make sense.
Most of the models have the English name given anyway. The text that accompanies each model describes the creation/inspiration, etc. Along with details of where diagrams can be found (if applicable).
For looking at crease patterns, it shouldn't be necessary to translate it.
Komatsu's site is also in Japanese. Miyajima's is available in English as well and the rest that I listed are in English.
A note: Miyajima's site uses javascript so that you can click on the image of the model and it will show you different angles. I've always had trouble with that working. If you really want to, you can alter the URL of the image, e.g. for shark01.jpg, change it to shark02.jpg to see the next, and so on.
If you are saving the CPs to your computer, I would also recommend saving a picture or two of the finished model, just for reference. It's especially helpful when people, like Sipho Mabona and various Flickr users, post the CPs separately from the images of the models.
Re: First 5 crease patterns
With a lot of my cps, i put them into what i call "making sheets" which are basically word/open office/whatever documents with as much as possible taken up with the crease pattern and what's left is full of images of the finished model. It helps.

Most browsers have an "view all history" option. When you get there, i'd bookmark it (or add to your favourites or whatever).

Re: First 5 crease patterns
I went striaght to comlex Patterns; my first five crease patterns were:
Chan's Cyclommattus Metalifer
Kamiya's Pheonix 3.5
Chan's Attack of the Kraken
Chan's Iron Man
Chan's Flying Carp (Am not sure of its legality)
Yes I'm a big fan of Brian Chan's Crease Patterns.

Re: First 5 crease patterns
I want to do iron man! I have the cp, and i will make it at some point!
@ origami geek, same, although i don't like having more than 43, because my browser then stops me from seeing all of them at once.

Anyway, 43 bookmarks, by the time you've found 43 sites to bookmark and bookmarked them, there must be at least one to get rid of.

Re: First 5 crease patterns
On the iron man cp, there are loads of curved folds. How do you do them?

Re: First 5 crease patterns
The blue circles and curves are not creases. They show the flap arrangement/circle packing.Harpseal wrote:On the iron man cp, there are loads of curved folds. How do you do them?
The red and black lines are the creases. You can safely ignore the blue lines.

Re: First 5 crease patterns
hahaha, i thought the same thing when i first started learning about circle packing. i was thinking 'how in the bloody hell do you get a circular fold?!?!' but then i read one of lang's books and figured out what they meant.Harpseal wrote:On the iron man cp, there are loads of curved folds. Re: First 5 crease patterns
Which book was it? I can't do circle packing. What paper would you recommend for the iron man?
