I think the hope is that someone may have heard a "rumour" or the like. Something like "I bumped into Brian at the "such-n-such" convention and he said that he had just one more model to diagram and that he has a publisher lined up and they said ..."

except that we know that the book is being published through gallery origami house as part of the i love origami series.

on the fourth page, www_leung has been proven right. he said that there was a queue from that series, with a coffee table book from joisel first, then komatsu, the hojo, then chan. the komatsu book will be announced soon. there is some leeway in the order, so that would suggest that the earliest that the chan book can be expected is 2013, probably 14. take note, in terms of diagrams, the komatsu book was done years ago. as expected, it is just an anthology of all of his works. the only diagram in it not previously available will be his lion. which means there are delays far beyond the capabilities of the author.

and, as proven by the komatsu thread, which was started in 2008, periodic inquiries here don't do anything, as ppl have been asking about his book at least that long. i think leung is right, the hojo book (which ppl have ALSO been asking about) will be next, so realistically, the chan book will be 2015 or later. there are delays with the book that have nothing to do with diagrams, as the komatsu book shows, so periodic inquiries here don't do anything.

I don't think anyone has suggested that enquiring about a book will do anything. Some of your post is fairly presumptive, although with the Komatsu book announcement I agree your timeline probably realistic. After such a long time period I wouldn't be surprised if Brian decided: "I don't want to wait another 2-3 years for Origami House - I'll take my designs to Nick Terry (or someone else)" or "I'll just publish piecewise in Tanteidan Magazine". Do you, or anyone else, know whether or not Brian is contracted/locked in to publish with Origami House? If so this would be worthwhile news, further support for your argument and a validation for enquiry itself. While asking about progress on a book very likely won't achieve anything (especially as Brian isn't an active member of this forum as far as I know) I don't see the harm in it or why you are so concerned that people are enquiring.

I note that on another thread someone has just posted exactly the type of comment I outlined earlier in regard to a possible Satoshi Kamiya second collected works. While the substance of that post isn't confirmed as yet (and I would be gob-smacked if it were out this year) it's exactly the sort of thing that people would like to hear about Brian's book, be it that it is coming out this year, in 2015 or that he has moved on in some way.

While asking about progress on a book very likely won't achieve anything (especially as Brian isn't an active member of this forum as far as I know) I don't see the harm in it or why you are so concerned that people are enquiring.

because it demonstrates a startling lack of netiquette and observation of forum rules. basic netiquette asks that new posters at least try to read through some old posts to get the lay of the land. it certainly isn't too much to ask new posters to go through the 3-4 pages of the komatsu and the chan thread (which, notably, even you hadn't).

if you had done some research yourself, you would know that chan does once in awhile post here. further research will also suggest a hint that he might be slightly annoyed with people asking repeatedly about the book (an incident about banning someone from his fb page).

refusal of new posters to do these simple things results in resurrection of the phu tran rose, postings to diagrams of phoenix 3.0-3.5, help with ancient dragon step 83, the pages in my works of SK specifically on the wizard's fingers are missing (thereby making the already useless search function even more useless by creating more clutter), etc., etc.

if you can't tell the difference, i don't know what to tell you. by all means, if someone has news about any of the books, let's hear it. obviously, SK *IS* working on the second book--the april fool's cover was way too polished looking--but i would be surprised if tateishi is wrong, since he's batting 100 so far. it also goes to show again how peculiar origami house is--komatsu's book has been "done" for years. most of the models were diagrammed a long time ago, and it should have simply been a matter of putting them all together and sending them to press. the fact that that isn't what happened should be very telling (that there is something more going on than is even hinted). the same is true of kamiya--almost guaranteed the book will contain mostly previously diagrammed stuff, and he has more than enough to make an anthology and send to press, with the phoenix as the crown jewel. that this hasn't happened yet should be very telling.

Bethnor I think your drawing a really long bow, dismissing or overlooking valid points and bordering on ad hominem. I did read the thread but I have not presupposed that how things were two years ago is how things are today. Project's get started, evolve and dropped all the time. Perhaps we have a different meaning of "active" - when did Brian make his most recent post here about his book progress? I notice that you haven't responded to my question as to whether or not you know that Brian is still committed to Orgiami House - or was that just idle assertion on your part? Another opinion presented as fact perhaps? I also draw your attention to the fact that what started this recent thread resurgence was not "IS THE BOOK OUT YET" (which I have already agreed with you is a "silly" question) it was "Anymore news, I've heard nothing". Do I need to re-explain the difference?

People who ask for news, or even "is it out yet" are just expressing that they are still interested in this book becoming a reality. They shouldn't be lambasted for it - why not just ignore their posts.

I really think that part of these threads is the fun of discussing any rumors and such pertaining to the release. To me, people asking for news are hoping that perhaps someone talked to Brian (or other would be authors) at a convention, for example or heard something from a friend, or Brian's Facebook page or Flickr. I daresay that any of these little tidbits most certainly wouldn't be published on the Gallery website. And why would I want to waste my time checking 10 other websites (such as Facebook, Flickr, Brian's Page, etc) when I can just drop by here to catch up on whats new. If these threads are annoying people, nobody is forcing anyone to read them.
