Re: MC - Methyl Cellulose
i actaully like the wrinkles, depending on what i'm making.
to make it without wrinkles, i have a thick sheet of plastic ( i also use the same sheet for dying paper ). i lay down both sheets of tissue on it, and i spray them with water, not enough to completely wet it, just so its damp.
i had (i broke it when cleaning it) a long, soft brush used for painting walls. you can also use a roller. spread the mc onto the dampened paper with something like that. i then use a smaller, or my finger, to get the wrinkles and bubbles out. works every time.
i stopped using gift tissue a few months ago, i figured out the natural, japanese kind, although more expensive, works much better for folding and mc'ing

Thanks man, I think I'm starting to get the hang of it now, my most recent sheets have been better just basically doing what sara adams does in her video. I'm still struggling to cut a perfect square though which makes it basically redundant. And yeah i get that you'll get better papers with the better tissue but I'm just using gift tissue until I feel I can reliably make a decent sheet. Thanks again,

Re: MC - Methyl Cellulose
its essentially lower quality methylcellulose sold at a higher price. yes, it will work, though.

Re: MC - Methyl Cellulose
yes, it is a methylcellulose based glue. like i said, it is just lower quality. its more like a glue than a sizing, so be careful what you use it on.
Re: MC - Methyl Cellulose
I read through some posts at the beginning and it sounded like people were making double tissue/back-coating on vertical glass surfaces(like a window).
Could anybody confirm that it works/give tips? Wouldn't the glue run all over?
Thanks.

Re: MC - Methyl Cellulose
I MC the paper lying flat but then stand it up to dry. The MC is thick enough that I suppose one could work vertically, but it seems more painful than necessary!
Re: MC - Methyl Cellulose
I have been looking all over the web, but I cant to find any mc glue. Are there any websites that sell it?
Please reply.

Re: MC - Methyl Cellulose
@ papermage: Just ask in a hardware store for wallpaper glue in powder form, most likely it will be MC. A brand name for example is "Metylan Normal".

I've linked to a couple if online sources I've used in the past:
http://papermade.passiontask.com/2012/m ... made-easy/
A lot if wallpaper paste/powder isn't MC, but it still works just fine in my experience.

Re: MC - Methyl Cellulose
try dickblick.com, it is $7 for a bottle.
cheapest one on the internet price wise. quantity wise, you'll have to look elsewhere - i remember seeing a one pound bottle of powder MC (enough to last 16 life times) for $17, but i can't remember the website for the life of me.
Oh, and toto, i didn't see your response till now.
to get a perfect square, you should trim one sheet of tissue about 3 cm smaller than the other. cut around the edges of the smaller one once your paper is dry. next, what i do is keep the cardboard support sheet from Tant paper (35cm), which is usually big enough for me, and i cut around that. perfect square!

Re: MC - Methyl Cellulose
It runs $18.50 on http://www.chemistrystore.com/Chemicals ... ulose.html . I bought a 1lb jar back in 2004 and its a bit above half-full, which probably isn't that off from when I bought it. Half a teaspoon in a teacup of hot water makes more than enough for a month's work for me, but your milage may vary if you fold a crazy amount or make a batch of 30+ sheets of treated paper.
