Re: Sara's Video thread: wish a model
Quite a while back I started a series of videos featuring different tessellation techniques ( see http://www.happyfolding.com/blog-tessellation_videos ). I had meant to complete, or at least expand, the series much earlier than this, but there was always a different video I wanted to do first. But finally I managed to continue.
So I'm happy to say that a video on how to fold a rabbit-ear triangle sink is now available.
Picture of "Stacked Triangles" by Eric Gjerde, a model that only uses rabbit-ear triangle sinks:
Video on YouTube: http://youtu.be/IRtTBSDzFhw
Video on happyfolding: http://www.happyfolding.com/instruction ... angle_sink
Plus, stay tuned for further videos! I want to upload three more tessellation technique videos in the next three weeks: the open-back triangle twist, the open-back hexagon twist, and the rhombus twist.

As promised, here's the next video, featuring the open-back triangle twist!
Video on happyfolding: http://www.happyfolding.com/instruction ... ngle_twist

Incidentally, you can fold the "Pinwheel" tessellation designed by Eric Gjerde using the open-back triangle twist and the hexagon twist.
Here's my fold from this morning: http://www.happyfolding.com/gallery-gjerde-pinwheel
Instructions for the hexagon twist are here:

Re: Sara's Video thread: wish a model
And the third one's up! This time: open-back hexagon twist
Video on happyfolding: http://www.happyfolding.com/instruction ... agon_twist
Video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T20FCOH7Tek
Using just the open-back hexagon twist and simple triangle twists you can already create beautiful tessellations. For example, here's a picture of one I folded a while ago: http://www.happyfolding.com/gallery-gje ... agon_twist

The fourth and (for now) final video on tessellation techniques is up! This time: rhombus twist
Video on happyfolding: http://www.happyfolding.com/instructions-rhombus_twist
Video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MB0_U94O0Ew
If you fill the whole paper with rhombus twists, then you will receive the tessellation "Rhombus Weave" designed by Eric Gjerde. See a picture of a "Rhombus Weave" I folded here: http://www.happyfolding.com/gallery-gje ... mbus_weave

Re: Sara's Video thread: wish a model
I created a bunch of content related to the book "Spiral: Origami | Art | Design" by Tomoko Fuse.
I first did a quick video sharing my excitement about the book: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qz65dj8YKo
Next I wrote an article for OrigamiUSA's The Fold (online magazine): http://origamiusa.org/thefold010_review ... esign_fuse
A slightly modified version of the review will also be published in The Paper (OrigamiUSA's print magazine).
Then I produced a video explaining how to draw the whirlpool spiral and coil fold crease patterns using Inkscape. This is mostly a video for people that have the book: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1BH_FEUZWo
Finally, I uploaded the instructional video on Tomoko Fuse's Navel Shell today:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-n1K_gKP_7Q
There's also an overview of all this content at http://www.happyfolding.com/book-fuse-s ... art_design

Can you do a video on Lang's Ruby Throated Hummingbird in ODS?

Thanks for all the wonderful tessellation videos, Sara!
I feel very privileged to have you making such fantastic instructional material; I couldn't do the same. I constantly find myself pointing people towards your videos as answers to questions- much easier than trying to explain to them in writing
Cheers!

Re: Sara's Video thread: wish a model
I'd previously done a video on this fantastic model in German, but Carmen recently diagrammed a slightly enhanced folding sequence. So I decided to make a new video on it - this time with English verbal instructions. Hope you like it!
And of course a big thanks to Carmen Sprung for her great work and her generosity in giving me permission to produce this video and make it accessible to you!

Re: Sara's Video thread: wish a model
As you may know I've been blessed with experiencing motherhood. Felix is now 5 1/2 months old and an absolute joy.
So I'm especially happy for a dear friend of mine, who is about to give birth any day now to her first child. They also got married recently, and we decided that perhaps the best present at this time was in some ways something I find to be quite impersonal: money.
But, oh, don't you get many heartfelt presents, which many people thought of, too? And then you have multiples and you can't really use them and it's a shame. Whereas money is something you'll be spending lots - especially once your little one is there and grows faster than you can blink with your eyes. (And how wonderful it is to experience their development!)
But of course origami (and some kirigami for a card) came to my rescue: a money fold makes a money present so much more personal.
While searching for a fitting model I came across Dominik Meißner's work, which I had not been aware of before, and totally fell in love with his baby buggy model.
Now I am happy to present to you an instructional video on just that model.

Many thanks to Dominik Meißner for this superb model, as well has his permission to make a video accessible to you.
And once I'd discovered that model, I decided to also buy a book by Dominik Meißner, which features further money folds: http://www.happyfolding.com/book-meissn ... r_gefaltet
It's in German, but as it goes with origami publications, the diagrams are self-explanatory.

Re: Sara's Video thread: wish a model
With Halloween around the corner, I wanted to find a model that fits the occasion. And I hope you'll be just as thrilled by Talo Kawasaki's "Patty Bat" as I am. It's a superb action model, and simple enough to fold even with beginners or children. Plus, the bat doesn't just flap, it also makes some nice noise. If you've got a crowd folding the model and "patting" the wings together you'll be surprised by the noise you'll be producing!
Special thanks goes to Talo for designing this wonderful model, as well as allowing me to produce an instructional video on it.
And here are the relevant links:

Video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7vt9p7cLVQ

By the way, I also found the time to add captions to the video, both in English and German. To activate them check out the lower right corner of the video player. There should be either a button with a box and two lines, or a button that reads "CC" (for closed captions). Press on it and pick your preferred language. (And if you want to help me out and translate the captions to another language, do contact me!)

Re: Sara's Video thread: wish a model
Hey everyone,
We all probably have some favorite models, not just because of the designs themselves, but also what we connect with them.
For example, I have a special fondness for "Braided Paper" designed by J.C. Nolan. The model reminds me of the time when I started with origami. Back then I lived in Oxford, and my first fold of "Braided Paper" was attached to the pin board in my tiny room. While some other models were also up there, this was perhaps my favorite, and definitely the one I remember having there.
While I cannot say when exactly I folded it first, I can place it somewhat accurately, because I remember it was in that room. It must have been somewhere in the first three months of me starting with origami, in the first quarter of 2006. Isn't it funny how we remember these details?
How about you? Do you have such a model that you remember fondly, because of a linked memory?
Well, for me "Braided Paper" is one of them, so it's a particular pleasure to share a video tutorial on it with you. I also want to take the opportunity to thank J.C. Nolan for this wonderful design, as well as giving me permission to make an instructional video accessible to you - including diagrams in the top left corner of the video.

could you do a quick addendum of "Double Braided Paper". It looks great too.
