Re: Non-Folders Reactions to Your Origami
The folder and the non-folder both consider themselves above the other. This is why this thread is so funny. If there was a Non-Origamists forum, and they had a opposite thread to this, it would be even funnier for us, as thisone would be to them. (To me even the thought of a 'how have you ever reacted to an origamist' thread seems funny)

For me:
"That's Awesome!
Can I have it!
Oh that's cool.
You should teach me!
How long did it take?
You have too much time."
And my favorite: "Did you make that with paper?" No, I made it with cardboard and glue. -_-

Re: Non-Folders Reactions to Your Origami
what's been a common reaction whenever i use the wrong kind of paper inadvertently, and get really far but then it just starts to get too thick and rip. so i just pick it up, *crumple crumple toss* and think nothing of it. despite how sad a situation it is, it's almost worth it seeing the reactions of others with outbursts of things like "I thought that took you forever?!" and "How could you do that, you were working on it so long!"

Lephantome92- same, although i've only ever done it once!

"What else can you fold?" is the one I usually get. It's also the one That's hardest for me to answer. I usually just reply with "Lotsa stuff."

I actually designed a four-headed crane using techniques I learned from John Montroll.eric_son wrote:"Can you do a crane?"dragon man wrote:"can you do a crane?" (when viewing a ryu jin 3.5)"Can you do a crane?" (when viewing a hexahedron I had just made)
... then you start folding a mutant 14 headed crane or a crane with another crane on top.

Don't worry. You'll grow up, and so will the people that surround you at school. They begin to appreciate things better (hopefully), and you'll begin to ignore the rude ones.legionzilla wrote:My classmates never seem to regconize what I fold ( look at my gallery to find out why), so they say that it is real crap and that I just crumple at sheet of paper and pull out the limbs. That's really irritating.

Re: Non-Folders Reactions to Your Origami
Reaction based on the model (descending order)
Action Model: How did you do that
Modulars- OMG is that paper!!
Super Complex- O.O
Complex- 0.0
Normal stuff- this is cool, but could you make that magic ball again
my design- meh its your design , how could it be good?
The models i like folding-(descending)
My design- its my design, i can fold it any where!
complex - I enjoy complex
normal- They are amazing models!
Super complex- they take far too much time to make it in front of others
action- most action models are repatitive
Modular- They are just tedious, not challanging
Thats why my reactions are negative

Re: Non-Folders Reactions to Your Origami
(I hope this topic isn't dead...)
Most of the people in my grade have no idea that I do origami. I don't do it at school and I never take any models there. I few of my friends who have seen them are impressed for a couple minutes, but then they couldn't care less. My other friends who haven't seen the models say, "I do origami, too!", which is just a typical crane or frog. Others say "cool", but don't really understand how detailed they are. The only people who really see my origami are my parents. They think it's cool, but if I make either my own simple design or a model that is less complex than the ancient dragon they don't appreciate it as much. So that's my two cents. Again, sorry if I brought the topic back, I'm not quite sure if that's improper etiquette.

Re: Non-Folders Reactions to Your Origami
this is a story about the most annoying little kid ever. so one day i was at summer camp. we were doing introductions and i said i do origami. about five other kids said "i do origami too!" one of them said it in a way so that you could tell he thought he was better than me. the very next day i brought in a self designed beetle (i can't find it now). and he and his annoying little friend looked at it and said " that's just a crumpled up ball of paper with legs!" and the annoying part, the little friend TOOK IT FROM ME AND SHOWED THE REST OF THE GROUP HOW "HORRIBLE" IT WAS!
not surprisingly everyone else thought it was awesome. so the very next day i brought in a dragon (also self designed but not a very good one, looks like a crane with longer wings and legs.) and he thought it was genius! he asked me if he could have it and i said okay (i know i was gullible, but i was like 8 and didn't know better.) and we became friends... sort of.

Re: Non-Folders Reactions to Your Origami
person: Wow! is that one sheet? did you cut it?
me: no.
person: can i unfold it to see if your lying?
me: no.
person: so its not really one sheet?
me: yes, it is.
person: can i unfold it?
me: it took ten hours. and i used methylcellulose, so you can't unfold it easily. it will ruin my expensive paper and model.
person: you used glue? that isn't real origami!
me: no.

Re: Non-Folders Reactions to Your Origami
Usually its a momentary expression of amazement and wonder and then how long did it take? and another one that i get often is "i do origami to, i can make a (insert simple model here)" which may seem big headed but it annoys me when they cant appreciate what someone else has done because they can do something similar. sigh.
