If you needed colors and you have a lot of white tissue, dyeing the paper might also work.

Just find a bottle of india ink (at a hobby store, craft store, etc.), "paint" the paper with the ink, and let it dry. Then cut to size due to the paper changing from the liquid. India ink comes in a variety of colours (including black) that you can mix together to get other colours you want/need.

That's what I've been doing for most of my kraft and tissue paper. I don't know if this will help you now, but I just thought it would be something nice to know. ~Flame

Thanks Flame, I believe it is a natural next step after making my own tissue foil. I'm actually making decent tissue foil now. Dyeing would be good idea. I've seen some really nice colors on other peoples models and I always just thought that they could buy them like that. I'll keep the India ink in mind next time I go to the craft store. Also I'm in need of a big glass plate, I'm using the dining table right now, but with al that glue that's not the best place for it.

Sorry for commenting as this topic is quite old...
I recently found a $2 shop near my house that sells light brown and cream coloured tissue paper. I live in Melbourne btw. To make grey tissue I glue a white piece on top of a black piece. To make dark brown tissue I glue a red piece on top of a black piece. This method makes the paper a bit thicker but it still works fine for most models I have folded out of it. I hope this helps

Hey Langko thank you very much for this tip. I've seen this on flickr a couple of months ago, I guess now it was on your photostream (I couldn't remember where I saw it). I have been experimenting with it ever since. Here are the combination I've done so far:

Brown on red does not work, maybe you got some more combination that work well?
I actually find this stuff better to fold, because it's a bit thicker it folds more like real paper and it's easier to sink. The paper also gets a grainy almost textured look. The brown/yellow really makes the lion and giraffe a better model, did the lion earlier in plain yellow but it didn't looked as nice.

Your welcome roodborst! The colours that you make look great. Yeah, I like this paper too because as you said it adds more texture. I find that because it is thicker it much easier to fold than regular tissue foil and you get less wrinkles. However when I fold complex box-pleated models this paper is not suitable. I don't know why your red+black=dark brown didn't work... Maybe its the shade of red you are using. Because I know that the shade of red affects the colour brown you get.

Another combination that I did...

The speckled whitish blue that I used for the body of the horse on the right was made by gluing a white piece on top of the blue colour which I used for the mane.

Langko, do you use MC to make your tissuefoil? Since I use sprayglue, I was thinking that might be te reason that my colors don't 'mix' as well as yours.
I'm still looking for a good place to get a cheap glass plate. That will be alot better for my dining table, since it is sticky for a week after I made my papers

Another combination that worked out very well:
Purple/foil/purple/orange
It turned out inbetween brown and a dark red.
