Roman Diaz - Kiwi (CP)

Post by Kiwigami »

hello I have been trying to fold a kiwi of my own for years now and all my attempt have ended in failure or at best other birds. I have all but given up when I discovered a beautiful model by Roman Diaz.

Having spent the last month and dozens sheets in a attempt to master the model I sumbit myself unto this forum for assistance. I can crease the model and have no problem folding the legs, feet and back. But I have many issues with the head and neck. Any advise would be welcome

The link below shows both the model and Crease pattern

Here's how I think the head is collapsed:

Image
Fold like a preliminary base.
Btw, do you know how do get the reference points needed for this step?

Image
Focus on the top.

Image
Open sink the top point.

Image
Petal fold the beak upwards.

Image
Wrap around a layer on each side to the back to change the colour of the beak.

Image
Thin the beak with valley folds.

Image
The head is finished. Now you can pleat the layers for the toes/legs.
Alternatively you could also reversefold in and out, but that doesn't really make a difference I think.

Image
Continue folding the rest of the model.

This folding sequence should be correct at least the result is how it is supposed to be :-)
So long and keep folding ^_^

Well, there have been several topics about CPs already. Here are some of the more general ones:
viewtopic.php?t=313
viewtopic.php?t=814
viewtopic.php?t=667

And then there are many topics about specific CPs (like this one), just try the
search to look for the model you are trying to fold :-)
So long and keep folding ^_^

Thank you for your super fast response - I'm afraid I had manged that much of the day myself and should have clarified it is the neck bit i cant do.

The leg to head strip seems to be raised above the main body and by folding the model in half I cant seem to get that effect. Strangly I think I can visualise what I have to do but the in practise I get confused half way. But dont worry I will figure it out.

I have to say Daydreamer I am overwhelmed by your response I don't know any folders in the real world and have only ever folded by myself and to find such a helpful community is quite lovely.

Yeah, I've been trying to fold it myself, I can sort of crimp the top to get the head to go upwards... but it's not in the CP. Other than that I haven't been able to get how the feet are finally folded (got the feet themselves, just need to figure out how to get them flat on the ground) and the head to go upwards. Otherwise I've got it.

I appear to be in the same boat as your self. I have not tried it for a while i got side tracked with the owl CP which I managed first time.

Interestingly I went on a hike last year and meet a conservation warden on the top of a snow covered peak who was giving a talk on the native New Zealand bat using an origami model. he too had been looking for a good kiwi model.

Nice work... now if you could just photo the rest of the crease pattern folding sequence for us Daydreamer ;)

Im amazed Diaz decided not to include this one in his book... I mean its fantastic and as far as I can tell pretty unique.

no i still have not managed to fold the neck bit - i have got a bit further with the neck but only in a very messy manner. It is a tricky model - if Diaz did put it in a book I'd be happy to buy it (hint hint)

I would upload a photo of the twenty or so half folded kiwi that scatter my floor but it is just too horrific
