Post by Rorigami »

Hi everyone
I'm Robin and I'm making an ebook called " Works of Robin De Baets"
I use inkscape for making the diagrams and MS word for puting them together
I will sell it on itunes, amazon and barnes and noble

Does anyone has some tips ?

Have someone else proofread and have some folders beta test your diagrams. Don't ask me how I know this. Lots of good high resolution color photos.

best of luck to you in the efforts. You may have already done this, so feel free to disregard. Putting together an entire book is a sizable undertaking and there are some smaller steps you might want to consider.

Get a website: It looks like you have a flickr account, but it does not seam to feature your orginal models. For very low cost you can put together a small website to promote your work. You can offer a few free models on your sight to build demand for your book. You can use wordpress for free

Get people excited about your models: Pick your favorite model and submit it to one of the large convention books (Origami USA, tanteidan, etc) to build some word of mouth for your effort. You can also load a model to the Origami USA paid download site and offer it for sale to gauge the response.

Create a professional product:Make sure the finished product is something you can be proud of, because you never get a second chance to make a first impression. I am just basing this on the flickr that i think may be yours. Make sure you are selecting paper that highlights the quality of your models and make sure you light the models and take excellent photographs.

Congratulations!

My only suggestion would be, study some other origami ebooks. Maybe the free PDF books in Origami Shop could be a good option:

Other free origami books

See what worked for them that you could apply in your ebook. Besides that, check for what things you still need to learn, or need help, in order to make this ebook.

Regarding the number of pages, I don't know. If it were a printed book I would say something around 100 pages, but I wouldn't know in the case of an ebook. Regarding printed origami books I've noticed that, unlike convention books, they don't have all the steps cramped in a few pages. You can easily find just six steps in a single page. That way, it isn't that hard to make a 100 page book.

Is 100 pages enough for an ebook that costs like 8 dollars ? I was planning to sell the book also on Itunes, but you need a Mac to send it to Apple's servers. So, I will sell it as Kindle ebook only when it's ready.

It doesn't matter how many pages the book has, the models it contains matter. For 8 dollars the book should have at least 10-12 models (unless they are really good).

Just make it easy to understand, professional looking, and don't miss out on any steps, and you'll be fine! Use Lang's diagramming from ODS2 as a standard upon which to set your models. Basically, you want to be able to send it to people and they should be able to fold it without having seen it before, with ease.

Are you 14?

If you make legs and arms directed to the other side and adds some details, it should looks like samurai from back and it will be very good model. Keep working!
