Failure!

So last night I had the my first total failure at a diagramed model that I have had in quite a while.

Lang's Silverfish from ODS rev2.
I could tell it wasn't going well part way through, as my folds just kept getting further and further from lining up correctly. I made it up to the step where you have to open sink all the layers (#93 I think), and actually them on one half of the model. Things were so ugly though I just accepted defeat and unfolded everything. I am pretty sure I screwed up an earlier step as well, folding the correct folds but on the wrong layers on the tail end portion of the model. I blame it partially on the paper, which was MC'ed mango paper, and seamed to crumple pretty easily on the sinks and spread sinks and I should have used a larger a larger piece. Also partially on me for just being lazy and not taking the time to make good folds. I don't feel too bad, because it is a pretty tough model in my opinion. I am guessing that other people find it difficult as well based on the fact that there are relatively few pics of them to be found online.

Anyway, I was wondering if anybody else here has had a total failure lately on a diagramed model, and if so which one?

Also if anybody has advise on paper size / type or any general advise on the silverfish, I would welcome it.

I failed at Komatsu's hippopotamus lately because something went wrong with the precreasing, and because copy paper isn't suitable for this model at all. For the silverfish I used 30 cm baking paper. The size was perfect, but it's almost impossible to shape with this paper. Foil paper will probably work better.

i had to log in just to reply to this one......but.....its been some time since ive had a complete failure on a DIAGRAMMED model....i wont get into CP's, but i consider myself a very proficient folder from diagrams. well......recently i was stumped by shuki kato and his triceratops. dont know what it was.....paper too small....or what....but its the first model in ages that ive actually unfolded, tried again...and eventually made an origami rock out of. pure frusturation on my part. maybe ill tackle it again this week.

Happened to me a lot. When I have a feeling that something is not right, I look behind the diagrams and I see my mistake.
I hate it most when I forget to turn the paper over. Valley lines become mountain and mountain lines become valley. it is really annoying. XD

I had plenty of failures when i first started origami. some of which included marc kirchenbaum's biplane and chessboard and ronald koh's ankylosaurus. Eventually I perfected the making of these diagrammed models with ease

I tried folding Marc Kirchenbaum's biplane today. I used too thick of paper, and the wings never want to stay together. So I'm left with something that looks more like an X-wing from Star Wars than a biplane.

An X-wing is arguably cooler than a biplane.
