secret project revealed! I could spoil the contents of the book for all of you, but it's probably not a good idea and I don't actually own a copy of the book myself (yet). But, I can tell you the only models designed by myself are featured on the front and back covers. And I definitely agree about that bee on the front cover by Robert Lang, amazing model!
-I just realized the amazon page has been updated with a nice preview including the table of contents, check it out if you're interested.
-And great link to the preview pages Justin, that link includes a few of my own model contributions!
Received my copy in the mail today! If anybody has any questions about the content I can probably answer them. In the meantime, here's a list of the models and and the amount of steps for each one:
- Won Park
1. Flapping $ Butterfly - 30 steps
2. $ Dragonfly - 30 steps - Sebastian Arellano
3. Bed Bug - 50 steps
4. Praying Mantis - 86 steps - Marc Kirshenbaum
5. Mosquito - 66 steps
6. Ladybug - 126 steps - Dan Robinson
7. Leaf Insect - 92 steps - Jason Ku
8. Rhinoceros Beetle - 138 steps
9. Luna Moth - 202 steps - Shuki Kato
10. Titan Beetle - 145 steps
11. Flying Hercules Beetle- 182 steps - Robert Lang
12. Yellow Jacket - 76 steps
took a closer look through my own diagrams and there are just a few errors in the printing, mostly to do with crease lines being thicker than they should be and in one instance a folded edge shown as a valley fold instead. The errors that I found were not present in the original files... Most all of the arrows were edited to visually match the rest of the diagrams and the written text has has some nice improvements overall.
So ive had this book preordered for a while, but due to a complication at amazon, the delivery got delayed. Its supposed to arrive tomorrow, but I really want to get some of the tedious grid precreasing out of the way.
So, Robert lang's yellow jacket- its 56×56 correct?
Thank you! Yeah, I know that the diagrams doesnt include the entire grid, but this is just going to be my test fold. My second folding of the model will probably use minimum grid creases
The images on the cover of the book are just awesome. The book might be good but I would rather prefer to learn origami from the internet at it is free here.
I finally got the book!!!!! Here are some of my thoughts on it
Robert lang's diagrams are somewhat disappointing. He frame too many things into single steps, but it is still comprehensible, just looks a bit sloppy. I can understand why he did that though, the model is one of the most complex models ever to be diagrammed.
Jason ku's models came as a pleasant surprise to me. He really manages his layers a lot better than he did in previous models (most notably, his butterfly and fairy). His models are not the usual Ku heavy box pleated 1000+ layers per limb. They are truly fun to fold
Marc kirschenbaum really disappointed me. His models were both diagrammed years ago in his origami bugs book. They are good models, but since I already own his book, I really didn't get anything out of it.
ive never folded anything from Dan Robinson before, but I really hope he does more diagrams. He focuses just as much on The folding sequence as he does the final product, he even says that "the product is secondary to the process" which is exactly what I love to hear. His models look phenomenal, but his folding sequence is just great fun.
as always, won park has great money folds. I expected nothing less from him.
Sebastian arellano has some great detailed models that also have a sense of elegance to them. They look like they will be a blast to fold.
last, but most certainly not least, shuki kato. In my opinion, he steals the show. His diagrams are clear and detailed, his models look amazing with perfect proportions, and his folding sequences are, as usual, very very fun and unique. Thank you shuki! You did awesome!
as for the book as a whole, at $15, this is a no brainer. So much talent and complexity in a single book. Its the orange box of origami books. The best deal you will ever find period.
