I've seen several people under 15 attend conventions, usually they need a guardian though.

Try to get a small painters roll like the one Sara uses in her video. It will help you to apply the glue far more evenly and thinner. They are also fairly cheap, so it should be easy to convince your parents that you need one.

Does pure MC permeate the tissue better than wallpaper paste? I'm trying to make DTMC the same way as Sara Adams and the glue doesn't really go through the first layer of tissue paper, leaving a half glued piece of paper.

Is your tissue bleed resistant? If so the MC won't permeate through very well.

So I tried making double tissue for the first time 2 days ago... Without mc... And it worked fine one of the best papers I have used. I just got 2 sheets of non bleeding tissue paper and glued them together with the same spray glue I use to make tissue foil paper. I will post a picture of the folded model soon!

@Langko: The downside of using spray glue to glue the tissue paper together is, that you don't add any sizing. Therefore the paper is less strong and softer to the touch. For me two layers of tissue paper glued together with Spray glue still feel like two sheets glued together, whereas two sheets of tissue paper glued together with MC feel like one very thin, crisp sheet of paper. The folding properties of these two kinds of paper vary a lot. You should really try the one made with MC for comparison reasons.

@loganorigami: It surely depends on the paper and not on the glue. If the glue doesn't go through, you can add the MC on top of one layer of tissue paper and then add the next layer. The problem is that tissue paper tends to wrinkle a bit the moment it gets moist, so the technique with putting the MC on top of the two sheets usually gives better results given that the glue seeps through.

I will admit by using spray glue the sheet doesn't feel that crisp. But the sheets are still very well stuck together and the paper feels like 1 and doesn't feel like it is going to peel apart. So far I have folded 2 models from it and it has worked quite well:


So since MC can be expensive and hard to locate I'm not going to worry about it because the paper made with spray glue seems to be working well enough at the moment

Gosh it's been a while since I posted...

Anyhow, I've been experimenting with wallpaper paste (which I'm 99% sure is MC with a little anti-fungal agent added) and various papers.

My first attempt, I think I mixed the MC with too little water, and all the paper stuck to the sheet of glass and tore when I tried to peel it off.

My second attempt I got the MC mix better (I now have a jar of diluted MC in the fridge) and got great results.

1: I folded the ant from Lang's Insects II from a 20cm square of Origami-Shop's textured tissue (this stuff) coated with MC. I folded the paper dry and then moistened the legs & antennae for final shaping. Very happy with the results.

2: I folded the butterfly from the same book from a 15cm square of printed washi (I don't know where it's from; my wife bought it for me). The MC coating turned what is normally a very soft, almost fabric-feel paper into a nice crisp origami paper. It's probably a little too thick for the most detailed models but still very satisfactory.

3: A large (40cm) sheet of kami that I tried to strengthen with MC unfortunately tore.

Third attempt: There's frequently a little piece of unryu in the sample packs that origami-shop always stick in... I'm currently MC-treating a 10cm square. I've decided to do a third coat of MC (and possibly even a fourth) and it's drying while I'm at work today. I'm already so impressed that I've ordered a pack of 50 30cm squares of unryu form origami-shop!
