That's not a hard-and-fast rule. It's just what some Japanese do because they're tired of Westerners messing up their names.Brimstone wrote:Just so you know, several languages CAPITALIZE surnames. You will very likely find KAMIYA Satoshi.
Same as with HOJYO Takashi and many more

Well then, sice we are speaking English, shouldn't it be Satoshi Kamiya? This is somewhat confusing since Kamiya's book says "Satoshi Kamiya" why not Kamiya Satoshi? Oh well Kamiya Satoshi it is...

Well, to muddy the water further, Kamiya-san will answer to "Satoshi Kamiya" because he lived in the USA for a year or so. However, he's back in Japan now, and the Japanese in general like people to get their names right (i.e. surnames first). I think that we as origami people should make the effort to correctly learn the names of the people we refer to on a regular basis. It's just common courtesy, and it reduces confusion in the long run. If you're unsure about a name, feel free to ask me.

The Ancient Dragon can be found in...
It is in "The works of Satoshi Kamiya" (Kamiya Satoshi.....) I think also a magazine, but I forget.
You can buy it from JOAS, Sasuga, and maybe others.

My counterparts in France have their surnames capitalized in their presentation cards. That was the first time I saw this and it was back in 2001. It seems that even there some words are used sometimes for names and surnames as well, so this is how they distinguish between both.Joseph Wu wrote:That's not a hard-and-fast rule. Can you tell me for what you have searched?Cupcake wrote:Umm... I have tried already, and It says:

I tried "Ancient", "Dragon", "Ancient Dragon", "Satoshi", "Kamiya", "Satoshi Kamiya", "Satoshi Kamiya Ancient Dragon" and got every time a lot of results.

Sorry...I was still only thinking of Japan. I didn't mean to comment on any other countries.Brimstone wrote:My counterparts in France have their surnames capitalized in their presentation cards. Here is the Atlas Beetle I designed:

The two points coming out of the head come from the bottom of the paper which is counter to what the real bug looks like. I hadn't really looked at the bug closely.
I'm trying to fix this in my next revision.
