What have you folded lately?

Trying to take better pictures now. Resolution is lower since I tripod mounted my phone so I had to crop. But I think that contrast is better and there is nothing distracting in the background.

What motivated you to try making better pictures?

I recommend Hagiwara's book Spirits of Origami without reservation. The sheer elegance and style of his models and pleasant folding sequences put it on the short list for me of exceptional intermediate level origami volumes.

I recently obtained a 45cm x 50m roll of Kraft paper, so I set out to try and fold some nice models with it. The first model I tried was Jason Ku's Luna Moth. Previously I had tried folding this before with a 35cm square of kami, but the paper fatigued really early and tears formed in places. However, I was quite impressed with the Kraft paper; it was very strong throughout the fold. Here's my fold (there are more views on my flickr):

I actually cut a very bad square from the roll. Then diagonals matched up, but when I folded in half horizontally one of the corners was off by about 2cm! It had taken me a long time to cut the square, so I didn't feel like cutting a new one. So I just decided to try folding it anyway. Surprisingly, I ended up with a quite satisfactory result .

Next, I folded Shuki Kato's camel. It was a very fun fold, with lot's of great folding sequences with clear diagrams by Shuki. I also used Methylcellulose for the first time, but not very much. Maybe I'll practice my usage of it on some other simpler models. Anyway, here's a picture (again, there are more views on my flickr):

Origami : Ship In A Bottle V2!


Designed and folded by me from a single uncut 22 cm square sheet of Cellophane sheet XD
Final Size: 9.5 cm x 4.5 cm

I am very pleased with the result. The sails were really difficult to fold...they keep touching each other. The ship was much easy to fold and design ( Heavy inspiration from Patricia Crawford's design ), but the bottle was really tough.
The pleats on the bottom give the effect of water, and those on the top - though troublesome - give the effect of reflection? Like a glass bottle? I couldn't figure out how to shape it better.

Still not a perfect design, but for the most part it works I think! It also means I'll finally be able to fold a lot of models requiring transparency.

That looks very delicate. Congrats on the successful design!

For me I tried to test fold Lang's Scorpion (from Insects II) out of 35 cm Japanese foil. I failed because I made a mistake in the precreasing. But then I tried again with 24 cm kami and succeeded! Now I'm ready to fold it out of nice paper. This model is odd because I feel that it is hardest in the beginning and then gets progressively easier. Precisely locating the references, precreasing and collapsing the base is no picnic. But then after that it is just a sequence of repeated reverses, sinks and mountains to thin the body.

Now I'm just deciding between 30 cm Oshop TF and shadow fold.

I've never folded (and much less designed) something that has lots of individual teeth, and while not complicated to fold it is quite tedious there's a total of 24 teeth! but I wasn't able to add eyes so it is blind XD I haven't designed something for over 2 months but I finally did something new the design itself isn't perfect but I'm really pleased with the final result.
