Online origami conference/workshop May 9, 2020

Post by Gerardo »

I hope to see you at my online conference/workshop! It's my way to help out a bit with us trying to be OK during these long days of confinement :). That's why the event is 100% cost-free. It's titled: "Creating through the Frankensteinian Method in Origami".

It'll be on Saturday May 9, 10:00 - 12:30 pm (New York) / 3:00 - 5:30 pm (London). Please look for the corresponding time of where you live. You can attend through the Zoom platform. Send me a message in order to register: gerardo(a)neorigami.com

Its topic is a particular approach to creation. In order to explain it, I'll ask you to follow me through the process I took when I created my model Shopping Bag. You won't need any particular math skills to attend and we will only be folding simple to mid intermediate models during the conference/workshop. You can find more details about it all at https://tiny.cc/creating

Please share and post the following poster (that sounded weird) asking others to share and repost it.

Let me know if you have any questions ;).

Hi everyone.

I intend to do a really good job. That's why I want to rehearse it all before the big day. I want to know if one or two of you would be willing to help me by attending my rehearsal, participating, and providing feedback at the end. I especially want to reach out to the people that are interested in the topic of the event but can't attend the 9th.

If yes, I would contact you so we can decide a convenient day and time before the event. Please let me know here or send me a message to my email address: gerardo(a)neorigami.com

Thank you in advance :).

Thank you all who helped promote the event! I wanted to let you know everything went wonderfully well :D. I had 75 attendants in total, which were so receptive and participative during the three hours we ended up sharing. We had people from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia (aside from me), England, France, Germany, India, Italy, Mexico, Spain, and the US, among other countries

After the event they sent me messages like these ones:
Sue Ann Chu wrote:I really enjoyed your Zoom class today on "Creating through the Frankensteinian Method in Origami" and the models you taught. You are a wonderful and patient instructor!
Andrea Plate wrote:Thank you for your event yesterday. It was very enjoyable and you are an excellent teacher. I look forward to more!
Carol wrote:loved every minute of the class. It was a creative, thorough, well-executed class with so much thought-provoking in-depth information. Thank you
Èvelyne Papoutsia wrote:Many thanks again for offering this 3h workshop which was ever so interesting! I never thought of an environmental aspect of origami but you are the living proof... Your explanations were very clear! It must have been exhausting for you to hold and fold your paper for so long... congratulations! I did manage to follow, except for your shopping bag halfway but kept on watching of course.

You should organize another Zoom session.
Just that made it all worth it! They have also been posting their comments in the blog entries Leyla Torres and Sara Adams had made promoting the event:

Another attendant, Anindya from India, took the following screenshot from his smartphone during the event. He's very active on Instagram, you can check his origami by following @origamist_mandal

So simply... thank you gals/guys for your help! Especially Faye Goldman and Matt Green; your help was invaluable :).
