After a long time, I have decided that you are all right... the eyes are open, as according to Kawahata's diagrams, and Kawahata's models... But that doesn't mean that I don't prefer my way!
Also, couldn't you just make a lightsaber with the stick? Yoda has a pretty small lightsaber, could probably just be made with a foot-fold
Notice how on the diagrams, there are mountain folds... precrease the mountian folds on the front flap, then the back flap. Then fold the front flap downand do the mountain folds... A rabbit ear on each side should emerge, sort of like a fish base.
