Cuppy, you really seem to be a very talented folder, I thought that a lot of times now. but the choice of your paper is... well... horrible. sombody with your folding skills should use other paper. why don't you use some new paper instead of that copy paper? I'm pretty sure, your models would turn from "nice" to "great" :)

Cupcake, your folding looks like trash. Now, I'm not blaming this on your ability (looks good for an eight-year-old), but on your terrible choice of paper. Rather than fold half a ream of crap everyday, why not fold two or three nice things from decent paper? Otherwise, if you're going to stick with copy paper, I suggest simpler origami, especially to hone your skills. Learn to fold cleaner, neater pieces, and do not fall into the trap of scrunching. This is one of the horrible consequences of t-foil (that's street-talk for tissue-foil).

For all our complaining about the downfalls of origami paper, it really does get the job done quite well, for relatively cheap. And foil(Japanese or similar) is great for folding (not displaying) a wide range of origami. Foil is also king when it comes to solving crease patterns.

In short: better paper ==> better origami.

Okay, okay, I'll start using my better paper :( However, that doesn't stop me from folding with copy paper for the first attempt

However, if you can churn out a really clean looking complex model using just A4/Letter sized copy paper, it would be even more amazing.
By clean, I mean no tears/rips, and no finger stains.

yesterday I've folded Langs paperwasp

I should fold it once more and use some thinner paper, although this one was folded from my thinnest kraftpaper (of course foiled).

Hi guys, Kate is my folding friend. We are doing the 120 piece modular truncated polyhedron project together at the moment. We will finish it and post photos hopefully tomorrow...

Oh and Cupcake i still reckon your models look fantastic, despite the copy paper.
I can't use copy paper because my hands get sweaty when I'm doing complex folds and the the paper goes from pristine white to grubby brown-grey... :?

~folder~of~paper~, maybe you should start wetfolding then ;)

Cupcake, I can only second what was written above, a better choice of paper will do your models a great honor. Try to get your fingers on some thin kraftpaper 40gsm will do the job, 32gsm is in my opinion the best. I never liked tissue foil a lot, but with kraft paper you will have all the good qualities that you like from copy paper on a much thinner and better looking sheet of paper. The other possibility, that is very cheap but a little bit time consuming is to make your own mc treated double tissue paper, in my opinion the best paper available.
About ready to buy foilpaper: There are very large differences between the ones available to buy. Some are very thick, others ripp easily and then there are the ones that make you want never to fold with anything else again, unfortunately I can´t tell you where to get the last mentioned, I got them from an eBay auction some time ago.

Dear Andrey ,

Unfortunately they didn´t come out right, I´ve fixed it. You will find help on how to post pictures here: viewtopic.php?t=721

In your special case you have to click on the image first and copy the adress of the picture itself to get it working.

Okay, I'll start folding with color. I still have a bit of paper left from my trip to Vancouver, but soon I will need more.
I like kraft paper, but the stuff I tried was way to thick. Does anyone know a good place to buy thin kraft paper?
And I might just try tissue foil eventually... I was pretty sure that someone mentioned that you could use liquid glue (please correct me if I'm wrong) instead of spray adhesive, and I have some of that laying around somewhere

glue instead of spray

Post by tripia »

Hello cupcake
I use only PVA glu (diluted with water) as a glue medium
for the t-foil
