Yes, but when I make precrease with the model closed, the thikness of the paper do not permit to make them precisely, one or more millimeter in a small model are very much, in a big model are not...
hope you understand my problem...

After several abortive attempts at Lang's praying mantis, I've grown to loathe sinks. I must have torn a ream of paper over that one.

Other than that, the only one that irritates me is guesswork. I can divide into thirds or fifths far easier than I could "Fold to about here". What really sets my teeth on edge is that guesswork like that ruins the precision of the model.

And that's precisely why Yoshizawa will always be the master...

Please don't misunderstand me. I have no problem with folds that are off center, but measurably so. It's the approximations, like montrell's kangaroo; specific fold patterns with no landmarks.

I know that a certain someone formalized those particular "guestimations" with the appropriate landmarks...

Credit where credit is due: I found the crease patterns for those constructions in an old Origami Tanteidan newsletter (before they did magazines) and drew up diagrams for them.

But back to Yoshizawa, there are many of his models that rely on folds without landmarks. It takes time and effort to practice his models to be able to get them right. And, somehow, he still does them better than anyone else.

Today I started folding the modular swan thats floating around all over the internet . (http://www.opane.com/swan.html <-- that one)

The first six steps were simple as flying monkey balls, but then it continues with the worst step ever.

Repeat 499 times.......

I've been busy all afternoon, and I'm only at 200.

*edit* I'm at 300 now. My fingers hurt :(

Actually, the folds that drive me nuts are spread-sinks. Even if you pre-crease them to get the sides to line up, there's all these little folds going on that you just have to *hope* find a nice resting spot.

does a nyone know any good methods for dividing into fifths? I've read about fujimotos iterative method which seems ok and i intend to try it but i wondered if there was a method like the one for thirds, which i like because it's pretty accurate.

Pleats and the like have to be my worst enemy. Those little buggers just get kinda confusing after awhile, but odd ratios are a pain too! Though I must say that there is one model that is fun to do and almost tottaly consists of pleats and crimps. Stephen Weiss's Woodland Elf! I love this model!

Edit: Also grids are horribly torturous, but you feel really good when you make one and can say to yourself. Hey self I just made a horribly torturous grid so boo ya!

I think I did manage to find a good solution for those endless detailing pleats: pliers. Just squeeze carefully and viola! Nice, evenly spaced pleats.
