As a follow-up to my last model, I'm happy to present you: Purple Tentacle!



Folded from a 30cm square of duo-kraft paper. I didn't have the right colour-combination at hand, hence the suction caps are not green. Will probably refold it with tissue-foil in the correct colours.

It's amazing how much more paper I needed just to add those pesky little arms. To get the same final size as Green Tentacle the paper has to be 50% larger. But at least in this extra paper, the paper necessary for the eyebrows was already included for free

Please everyone make sure that your pictures aren't larger than 640x480 pixels. It is very annoying for members with a small screen or a slow internet connection if the pictures are larger than that size.

What exactly is small and slow nowdays?
For me it is annoying when you can't see details 'cause a picture is ridiculously small...

But some people have a monitor where the picture is larger than the display, in that case they have to scroll sideways every time someone writes a reply that contains some more text, that is very very annoying. There are also people that do not have broadband (yes there are still such people!), for these people a single picture sometimes needs ages to load.
If you want larger pictures post a small picture with a link to a larger picture, that's easily possible and everyone can decide on his own if he wants to see the more detailed picture or the smaller one.

If we are talking about computer monitors I hardly can imagine someone sitting behind a 640x480 monitor today...
On the other hand, if a 1024x768 picture takes ages to load, so does the 640x480 picture 'cause it's just 2 times smaller. Or are here bigger than 1024x768 pictures posted (just curious)?

For example, college students living in apartments where you don't have a choice about your internet service.

Go with 640 x 480. And you can always link to a larger one:

will display the smaller picture, which if clicked links to the big picture.

And for the record, I have a 12 inch laptop, with 1024 x 768 resolution. Anything bigger than 800 x 600 is too big. Not necessarily for loading time, but just the size. The other issue is that it messes with the formatting of ALL the posts on the page. Whatever post requires the widest lines (read widest picture) determines the width of the entire page of 15 posts.

Also 1024x768 is still used by the majority of computer users. So a 1024x768 picture plus the additional space around the picture (avatar, etc.) is definitely too large.

OK, got the point.
One note: isn't there a possibility to get the width of the text column fixed, so no picture could enlarge it but is shrunk instead to fit to that width?

Here they are. Green & Purple Tentacle, both refolded from tissue foil in the correct colours. Purple Tentacle folded from a 32cm square, Green Tentacle from a 22cm square.
