Small treatise of busts:
When I learnt to fold Little demon, I continue with Small bust. It should be a little surprise that it is very difficult to make similar busts. The instructions do not offer wide place for improvisation - on first look. Result is, that first four bust were absolutely different:

After many many other attempts I started to fold almost the same busts, here is the result:

Hey everyone, here's my bimonthly or so update on my design that's been in progress on and off all year:

Sulcata tortoise Carapace (the plaston aint bad but I'm not showing it

Folded out of a piece of Japanese foil. I love this stuff but I haven't found any size bigger than 15cm... There's actually individual plates on the margin that are 1x2 but I took photos from a bad angle so they just look like creases. It happens when the thing you're trying to photograph is only 5cm long...

The finished design with have all of its limbs and such, but the hind limbs and tail need some finishing up. This design just fits on a larger grid.

I did not understand if you will make only shell or also turtle inside. I think, shell is enough, it is inovative idea...

You should design a turtle that can retract it's head and limbs in and out. That would be funny.

Since you are so specific with the name, maybe you should add the proper color changes so it doesn't look just like any other turtle. Otherwise, just call it a turtle.

I just want to be clear that my model is of a tortoise, not a turtle. Tortoises are entirely terrestrial and have higher domed shells than turtles, which makes designing one much more difficult for me...

But you're right Rod, as of now it looks like a prety generic shell, but I have paid close attention to the size ratios of the scutes. There are many different shapes of tortoiseshells, but many species have shells that look similar to this one. After I finish the rest of the tortoise (which will be from one sheet still), it will have large spurs on the front legs, a defining feature of this particular species.

As for color changes, I'm not up there yet. I don't even kow how anyone would make color-changed rings for each scute, which is pretty much where most of the differentiation in color is. Since there's a lot of texture in this design, maybe color change will be too much... I'll stick with a sandy color.
