Exact the same for me
Fortunately I've never get rude or annoing comments.
Sometimes some funny/stupid like "I can fold a ship (or hat) when I've just finished a hermit crab"
My experience with not-folders has also shown me that there are a lot of people that are very interested and fasinated by origami, but since they associate it to a "children practise" they feel themselves quite in shame in doing it.
Usually I try to encourage those people, but I often see that they are more warried about the eyes of the other whatcher than to do the creases in the right way.
It's quite sad
I have to travel a bit for my work and reactions usually differ from city to city. It could range from "Can I have that?" to non-verbal shrugs of "Oh, whatever!"
And yes, people do like simple, colorful, symbolic models. Somebody once told me that if they wanted a realistic looking animal, they would rather look at one made of clay or wood or something.
I usually get many negative feedback, many of my friend and family said that...
and the most annoying thing from my friend when i folding is "why did you so obsessed with origami?? it's only a piece of paper folded??"
but sometimes i get positive feedback from my friend and family, like:"wow..", "you must be patient", "you are so creative", etc..
some of my friends love my origami, and sometime ask my to make them origami...... or teach them...
and i get a lot of "You have too much spare time" like Nathan...
and i usually do origami to relax or as my hobby....
and i only got Wednesday as my spare time....
Whenever I show my aunts my designs, they'll tell me how to improve it by giving impossible demands. It's really annoying because they have no idea what they're talking about and try to act like they know what they're saying. I show the my dragon and they tell me to add scales and spines running along the back. OH YEAH, THAT'S REALLY EASY!
"Wow"
"What's that?"
"Are you obsessed with that crap?"
"Can you fold a penis"
"Can you fold a vagina?"
"Make Me Something!"
"Make Me a Smiley face"(what the duck kind of person demands you to make something thats always looks happy?)
"Teach me how to make one"
"I can't fold worth sh!t"
"You have no life"
If one more freakin' person tells me to make them something, I might as well just make them Jeremy's swiss army knife and kill them with it. JK!!! But yeah some responses really piss me of a lot!
The one that bugs me the most is "how'd you fold that?" I never know what to say in return... I mean, I just spent the last two hours working on it, do you really want to listen to me lecture about origami design techniques for the next twenty minutes?
When I fold something interesting, The first reaction is "Let me see that!". Then comes, "Can you make me that???" or "I'll pay you a dollar if you do it for me!". Sometimes they'll ask "Teach me please!", when I've got other things to do
And so, I made total of 3 dollars
