Christmas Origami Book 2008

Post by origami_8 »

Dear all,

For the third time there will be an Origami Christmas book this year.
This will be a book from creators to creators containing previously unpublished instructions only.

That's how it works:
Everyone who wants to participate sends me (at least) one previously unpublished folding instruction. Afterwards I assemble them all into a pdf-file with a table of contents and send it back to all participants. In the end everyone of them gets a nice compilation of diagrams that aren't available elsewhere.

Everyone who wants to take part can send his/her instructions to
Origamibook AT gmail DOT com
(Replace "AT" with "@" and "DOT" with ".")

The last date to send your instructions is December 15.

Hopefully many people will contribute to this project so that we´ll get a nice book together :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Some questions (and their answers) that have been asked before:

* Do I need to send computer drawn diagrams?
No, hand drawn diagrams or other clear instructions (photo or text) count as well.

* Can I send more than one diagram?
Yes of course, as much as you want.

* Can I have a copy of the book without sending something in?
No, this project is thought as an exchange of folding instructions and not to earn money with it. If you don´t have an own model to diagram maybe you can draw diagrams for someone else´s model, so that you two can participate as one person. For help in finding someone see here: viewtopic.php?t=1810

* Have the models to be Christmas related?
No they don´t. Christmas is just the date you will receive the book.

* Can I send Crease Patterns and Text Instructions as well?
Yes, but make sure to also send a picture of the finished model. Diagrams are preferred.

* Is it possible to obtain the books of the previous years?
Yes, by sending more than one unpublished diagram, you can "buy" previous editions (one book per additional diagram).
If you send more than one diagram and want to obtain back issues please tell which one(s) you want.

* How many participants contributed in previous years?
2007:
48 participants sent in a total of 70 instructions of which 16 were Crease Patterns and 4 photo instructions.
The book is 13,2MB in size and 176 pages long.
2006:
32 Authors have sent in a total of 49 Models, five of them as Crease Patterns. The finished book contained 149 pages and was 24MB in size.

Informations about the last two books can be found here and here.

but do you have time to diagram? I've got plenty of designs! :-P

I look forward to submitting something! I've done this for the past three years and it's been great fun, everyone should do their best to submit something. And make it GOOD! or else....

Seriously, though, don't worry too much about it. This is an excellent low-pressure place to get started diagramming, and for people like me it's a good deadline to make me actually finish something! I wish you all the best in your diagramming.

Has the folding instruction to be related to an unpublished model as well?

Nope, only the folding instructions have to unpublished. You can draw diagrams for any of your models you like, even if you've shown the model already.
So long and keep folding ^_^

Hmmm, I wonder what I should make diagrams for this year? Those Eeveelutions need some, but I know other people would want them before February. Maybe Mudkip? Or Dratini? Hmmm....

can I send in a better version of the musk beetle CP? and, if I can, I will try to make a CP of my tiger base (* lots of gasps*) I might add some extra instructions for shaping too. oh, a question, do the older issues cost anything?

Excellent! I'm looking forward to seeing what the forum produces this year! I made nice vector diagrams instead of the unclear photo diagrams I submitted in 2006.
If you can't fold it, try a bazooka.
