Hi! It's been a long while since I've been active on here. I deleted my Dropbox years ago, so some things, like my Dragonfly Varileg guide, are lost to time. I may still have other things, though! Email me if you have any questions.

Tissue foil? Anyway congratulations on making a Lang CP  ! Almost all of them are very tough. I like the way you shaped the antlers, very naturalistic and lifelike.

Well, that's just my problem. The only papers that are available to me are Kraft paper, Kami, and tissue foil. I don't like using Kraft paper, because it doesn't hold the folds all too well, and often comes apart. I just don't like kami; that's an obvious one. And thus, I almost exclusivly use tissue-foil for my folding. I should probably try to find more variety in my papers in the near future, but for now, tissue-foil.

Kraft paper might work better if you just wet-fold it (especially with some MC). Otherwise, if you are looking for some nicer papers, try looking in local art supply stores-they may have some nicer papers like lokta, abaca, kozo, and washi, although they also may have bark or large fiber inserts that make them unsuitable for folding. Another source for better paper is online stores. There are many websites that sell fine papers, although finding well-priced papers that are suited for folding may take some searching-I have never ordered paper online, so I am not familiar with it. Otherwise, you are doing a fine job with tissue foil. It does get unavoidably wrinkled when folded, but you can still do some nice stuff with it. Congratulations on the deer! Those references must have been a pain.

Well, I have tried wet folding Kraft paper in the past, but only on two occasions: When I folded Kamiya's Smilodon, and when I folded Lang's Black Forest Cuckoo Clock. It worked out with the Smilodon, but with the BFCC, it didn't really end up that well.

There aren't all that many art stores where I am, and even if there are, there aren't any specialty papers. There is the Paper Place, but they only make washi. I am hardly ever out into downtown Toronto, and even if I did go, I haven't any money with which to purchase the aforementioned commodity.

So, in conclusion, I will stick with tissue-foil until I have more chances (and money).

Washi is fantastic-depending on the thickness of the paper, it should work very well. You of course will need to treat it with methylcellulose, but washi should be very foldable.

If only I had some. I don't have any money at all (with which to purchase origami related goods), and don't recieve a regular allowance. So, I have to wait until I can secure a steady rate of pay for myself. Me being 13, I will probably have to wait for a couple years until I do. :(

That is too bad-good paper can be expensive. Best of luck to you in your search for paper nevertheless.

There is always a way for a talented folder....

1. Fold a few models of one that you like and do well.
2. Go to an art store, art teacher, or art professor at the local college.
3. Ask them if they will trade you a packet of paper for a nice model.

Most creative adults remember the frustration of being creative and poor. If you make a good effort, and are very gracious, you may find someone compassionate, willing to help you out.

I survived many years of relative poverty though the use of sincere charm and gratitude. ... When I lost my poverty, I also lost my charm and humility :-)

I am still poor & humble, but have always lacked the charm.

Maybe I need to get rich and arrogant to become charming?

Ftangdude- I cant get hold of pure MC either but I have found out that wallpaper paste is basically made up of MC with a small amount of other stuff.

I have used wallpaper paste to treat my paper, and to make double tissue. This is a good alternative to tissue foil and the model should last longer too, but you'll just have to wet shape the details.

4 Questions:
Where would you find wallpaper paste?
How effective is it?
How much MC is in it?
Which brand do you prefer?

You can get wallpaper paste from most hardware stores or home centres, it comes in boxes or packets as small flakes.

The effectivness depends on what strength you can get. I've been using extra strong stuff, I put about 3 table spoons in a medium sized jar and fill it with water, the consistency you want is slightly gloopy, it is too strong if stays on the end of the paintbrush and doesn't run off.

So far it hasn't affected the paper badly, and it stiffens the paper well and really helps with wet shaping. You just have to watch to see if the colour runs.

The only brand I have used is Solvite, because it was in the cupboard, but I'm pretty sure most brands are the same. It doesn't say what is acually in it on the box...but it says it has fungicide in, and I'd imagine it has some other preservatives in to keep the paper on the wall.

Hope this helps you out, and good luck with finding some.

Thanks for the info, Wizmatt. :)
Hopefully, in the future, I will be able to find some pure MC, and some paper to apply it to, once I have enough money.
